Jesse Jackon Blasts Ken Blackwell
POSTED: 12:24 pm EDT September 18, 2006
UPDATED: 12:43 pm EDT September 18, 2006

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Jesse Jackson is blasting Ken Blackwell, saying the Ohio Secretary of State has been issuing rules this year intended to keep blacks from voting.

Appearing in Columbus, Jackson said Republicans in general are emphasizing voter suppression, not voter registration.

Blackwell is the GOP's candidate for governor. His campaign spokesman, Carlo LoParo, calls Jackson "a partisan operative" for the Democrats, and says the party is wrong to criticize Blackwell, who is black, on the race issue. LoParo says a Census Bureau study after the 2004 election found that Ohio had record turnout among African-American voters.

10. and he purged even more before the election (from his own report):
Lucas County is a Dem Stronghold with Toledo:

-October 4, 2004 was filing deadline for new voter registrations. At that point there were approximately 20,000 unprocessed voter registration applications with less than a month before the election. One mail tray containing 4,500-7,000 (estimates vary) unprocessed “Project Voter” registrations were discovered on or about October 18,2004.
SOURCE: SOS Investigation pg 10

***Of interest here is information obtained from the SOS website entitled ElectionsVoter/results 2003 and 2004 which show the # of registered voters number change from ‘03-’04 was 11,947 in Lucas County: reg voters 2003 in Lucas=288,190 ; registered voter in 2004=300,137.

2. I don't know why Blackwell is campaigning at all...
he has the fix in at Diebold. He can sit at home and organize his sock drawer knowing full well that he will be the next "duly elected" governor of Ohio.

12. I live here....
And I also served as a democrat on the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections bak in the 90's...

I know all about the problems...

But that is stil no reason for people to have such a pessimistic view going in...

Perhaps that is what they want people to think so that they don't turn out to vote...

Me...

I'm voting absentee...

14. I voted in the primary here in MN
It was paper ballots, but law changes mean they have at lease one electronic ballot machine per precinct for different languages and for handicapped voters. The nice older lady behind the tabled asked if I wanted to use the touch-screen machine. I politely told her "After Ohio? I'll take paper, thanks."

9. Let him fix it.
It'll be HIS ass that'll have to go into hiding when the riots start. You can't Diebold your way out of a 20-point deficit and expect the public to buy it like they bought George W Bewsh's selection.
