Poll: NY Dems could win all top posts (Siena College Poll)

Led by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, Democrats could be positioned for an electoral sweep in New York that would leave them in control of every statewide elected office for the first time in more than six decades.

(According to) the first post-primary statewide poll, out Monday from Siena College's Research Institute, reported that Spitzer is maintaining a huge lead — 72 percent to 21 percent — over John Faso, a former state Assembly minority leader, in the race to replace Pataki.

The three-term governor announced last year he would not seek another term; he is eyeing a 2008 run for president.

The poll had Clinton leading her Republican challenger, former Yonkers Mayor John Spencer, 62 percent to 33 percent.

In the race to replace Spitzer as attorney general, former federal Housing Secretary Andrew Cuomo led former Westchester County District Attorney Jeanine Pirro, a Republican, 53 percent to 36 percent. Democratic incumbent Alan Hevesi was ahead of Christopher Callaghan, a former Saratoga County treasurer, 56 percent to 23 percent, in the state comptroller's race, according to the poll.

And this, among all the many other reasons, is I love New York. Yay us!

2. I'd like to see Alan Hevesi win by a huge margin, on top of all the

other races -- an all-blue finish sounds just fine to me.

Two people I have respected all my life are contributors and supporters of Alan Hevesi, and I hope their Nov. 7th is a very triumphant one.

The Empire State is gonna go blue in a big way.

... Hevesi is up by thirty points! I'm kinda bummed out that Cuomo beat Mark Green in the primary election for Attorney General; don't get me wrong, I like Andrew Cuomo too. But I prefer Green (and truthfully, I actually feel sorry for him -- dude's been losing a lot of elections lately!).

Anyway, I like Hevesi and I'm glad he'll be part of the Democratic sweep of NY. We're true blue once more!

5. Hi, choie. I think we think alike on Mark Green. Agree with you about

Cuomo also -- he'll do just fine -- and his father is my idea of a Democrat -- but I have been a Mark Green fan for a long time, and wish he had defeated Bloomberg way back for NYC mayor.

Oh well. Politics has its ups and downs. You bring good news about Hevesi.

I'm no longer a New Yorker, but on Nov. 7th, I'll be casting a keen eye to see how things turn out in the Empire State.

4. To respond to a question from a duplicate thread...

It was asked in this dupe thread how the race for NYC mayor was going.

Alas, NYC's still stuck with Mike Bloomberg for a little while yet -- he only started his second term in January. In other words, the next mayoral election isn't until 2009.

Though Bloomberg's not exactly hard right-wing anyway, I suspect that if we Dems win back Congress (I pray God or any deity/force/electorate that has the power to make it so!), our mayor will revert to more of his Democratic side that he's hidden over the past five years. He's an opportunist at heart, and if the winds of change are blue-tinged, Bloomberg will follow suit. (Could be worse though: could still have Giuliani.)

And without the Rove factor of anti-gay, anti-black, anti-latino, Repukes have nothing to say. And in NY, running a racist campaign won't fly.
