Strickland holds big lead in poll (OH)
Sunday, October 01, 2006
Mark Naymik
Plain Dealer Politics Writer

Five weeks before Election Day, Ohio Democrats are poised to move into the governor's mansion and other top offices, ending 16 years of GOP dominance of state politics, a Plain Dealer poll shows.

Leading the party's ticket is gubernatorial candidate Ted Strickland, who heads into the Nov. 7 election with a 17-point lead over Republican nominee Ken Blackwell, 53 percent to 36 percent.

Democrats vying for secretary of state, auditor and treasurer also lead their Republican opponents, though by much smaller margins.

The only Republican positioned to win a state executive office is Auditor Betty Montgomery, who is running for attorney general, a job she held earlier for eight years. She leads her Democratic challenger, State Sen. Marc Dann, 47 percent to 37 percent.

4. I wouldn't get too confident, we have very serious
voting problems in Eastern Ohio where Ted Strickland is from. They have closed many of the voting places in the area by mandate from the Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell and would you believe the Help America Vote Act. I don't understand why the Democratic candidates aren't all over this issue. On November 8th I fear we will hear people saying they stole the election again.
