(MSNBC) Polls: Democrats in striking distance for Senate
Edited on Mon Oct-02-06 08:59 AM by Mark E. Smith
Several incumbent Republicans trailing with five weeks until election

NEW YORK - Five weeks out from the midterm elections, MSNBC/McClatchy polls, conducted by Mason-Dixon
in eight states, show Democrats are in striking distance of taking control of the Senate. The Democrats are
very likely to gain several Senate seats with some races still rated as toss-ups.

In the Senate, Democrats need to gain six seats to regain control of the chamber. Our polls show that this is
certainly possible as five races are toss-ups, one now narrowly shows a gain for Democrats -- Pennsylvania --
and the party maintains control of Sen. Maria Cantwell's Senate seat in Washington. In addition, other
Mason-Dixon polls released Sunday indicate trouble for Republicans in three other GOP-held seats.

(Much more...)

1. I'm looking forward to next week's poll numbers
Between Woodard's book and Foley, I see support falling away for the gop.

2. I am beginning to think Webb in VA will lose
I had high hopes for him but he is just too laid back, taciturn, not a good campaigner and looks like not cut out for politicking. With all of Allen's troubles, Webb should be up in the polls.

4. Uh-oh. That means that Repukes will now get REAL down and dirty..
I mean even more than before!!!!
The Dems will have to be very aware of what is going on around them.
No small aircraft, no lonely motel rooms, etc. etc.

6. remember those poll numbers. The results will flip that (Ga 2002)
The polls are not exactly honest either. It's probably much better for us than they say. If they count the votes, that is.

9. My bets are that the Dems get PA, VA, and OH while maintaining current
seats up for re-election....

And as a special bonus, we might even get Montana.... :bounce:

10. Montana is far more likely than VA
Most polls have shown Tester with a comfortable lead. Virginia would be a good one to gain, and we probably might.

11. I don't know...I think people in VA are pretty disgusted with Allen
So, I actually take your comment about Montana a really good one, because I feel real good about VA.

:hi:
