AWOL soldier says he's atoning for Iraq
AWOL soldier says he's atoning for Iraq
By BRETT BARROUQUERE, Associated Press Writer

RADCLIFF, Ky. - An Army soldier who fled to Canada rather than serve a second tour of duty in Iraq said Tuesday his act of defiance was a protest against the war.

Spc. Darrell Anderson, 24, spoke to reporters shortly before he planned to surrender to the military at Fort Knox, saying he hopes for leniency.

Anderson said he deserted last year because he could no longer fight in what he believes is an illegal war.

"I feel that by resisting I made up for the things I did in Iraq," Anderson said. "I feel I made up for the sins I committed in this war."

1. I hope he finds peace...
what a horrible experience for one to 'get over'....reconciling with the past for the rest of your life.

2. Whole bunch of our Vietnam veteran brothers have been struggling....
with this for a long time. I can only hope they meet-up and work together to push through it and find lasting peace.

4. I've known a few...
I've heard it said we all have our crosses to bear, and nobody gets through life without scars....but their wounds belong to us all, and will have a tremendous effect on our society...our country has no soul.

3. Give Peace A Vote
Aren't you ready to let the politicians know that we, the
majority of Americans, want an end to the ongoing war in Iraq?
Then please join me, along with Yoko Ono, Susan Sarandon,
Alice Walker, Dolores Huerta, Cornell West, my friends at
CODEPINK, and MANY MORE in signing Give Peace a Vote.

This is a Voters Pledge that we will only vote for candidates
who publicly call for a speedy withdrawal from Iraq and will
keep us from engaging in future unjustified wars. Let's send a
clear message this November and beyond, that we believe in
international law and diplomacy over aggression.

Please sign the Voters Pledge and ask at least 10 of your
friends to sign as well. With millions of peace voters, we can
elect leaders who will Give Peace a Chance. That's all we are
saying.

Simply copy and paste this url in the address bar of your web
browser to sign up NOW:

Thank you for taking action!
