Gingrich: Dems' Sex Scandals Are Worse

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Wednesday that Democratic sex scandals have been far worse than the suggestive Internet messages sent to teenage congressional pages by former Rep. Mark Foley.

Gingrich said Democrats have wanted to punish their offenders less than the GOP.

"What we don't have to do is allow our friends on the left to lecture us on morality," Gingrich said at a party fundraiser in Greenville. "There's a certain stench of hypocrisy."

...

Gingrich would not say whether House Speaker Dennis Hastert should step down in the wake of the scandal. He also declined to discuss reports that Hastert may have known about Foley's behavior for more than three years.

"I don't know what he knew," Gingrich said.

"Gingrich would not say whether House Speaker Dennis Hastert should step down in the wake of the scandal. He also declined to discuss reports that Hastert may have known about Foley's behavior for more than three years."

If you presumed to do your job as a spokesman for Hastert, shouldn't

"I don't know what he knew," Gingrich said.

you know, what he didn't know, when he knew he didn't know, he knew ?..

Then, Newt, at least you'd know, what you don't know!

Stubbs did have sex with a 17 year old boy (not sure if it was a page, intern or what). He did NOT try to bribe other dems to cover it up, he did NOT blame anyone else, he did NOT go into hiding when 'caught', he DID run again and got re-elected, mostly because he did not try to cover it up...

121. The infamous republican necrophiliac serial killer rapist Ted Bundy
fits right in with your list:

Bundy described the part of himself that, from a very young age, was fascinated by images of sex and violence, as "the entity," and kept it very well hidden. It should be noted, however, that by the time Bundy was talking about "other selves" he was trying to appeal his death sentence. Later, friends and acquaintances would remember a handsome, articulate young man. Bundy worked and campaigned for the Washington State Republican Party as an adult.

80. Nothing in the universe could be worse than a "man" who would
DREAM of abusing others the way Gingrich does habitually.

From Robert Scheer, L.A.Times, published in 1999, before he (Gingrich) did even more damage:
Critics of Gingrich have long made much of the insensitivity he demonstrated in serving his first wife with divorce papers while she was in the hospital being treated for cancer. Nor did news of his efforts to cut life insurance coverage for the mother of his children always endear Gingrich to his family values supporters, but it was generally assumed that his marital errors were in the past.

This time, his approach was less personal. Marianne Gingrich told the Washington Post that she was informed of the affair and the request for a divorce last May in a telephone call from Newt to her mother's home, where she was visiting.

After first expressing best wishes to his mother-in-law on her 84th birthday, he asked to speak to his wife, who was soon reduced to tears by Newt's news.

"I said, 'Marianne, what's wrong?' " Gingrich's mother-in-law told the Washington Post, and she said her daughter replied, "He doesn't want me as his wife anymore." According to the Post: "There was a second jolt soon afterward. Newt Gingrich, now 56, informed his wife that he was having an affair with a congressional aide, a woman 23 years his junior."

Marianne Gingrich told the Post she was "totally shocked" by the news, and her attorneys last week obtained court permission to interview Gingrich and Callista Bisek, a scheduler and assistant hearing clerk for the House Agriculture Committee since early 1995. The relationship allegedly began that year.

13. Never forgive Newt for this
when Susan Smith drowned her two little boys (and blamed a carjacking black man - who didn't exist) Newt took the opportunity to blame liberals. It was our fault...we had created the climate...for Susan Smith to drown her two sons.
How heinous is that?
What Newt didn't mention was that Susan Smith's Republican committeeman stepfather had been sexually molesting Smith since she was 14. The man admitted the abuse.
No. Not the Republican stepfather's fault that he seriously damaged his stepdaughter.
It was the liberal's fault.
What a surprise that Newt is singing that song again.
Talk about your hypocrisy!
The rightwing trash talkers have been blaming liberals for Mark Foley's predatory ways.
How low is the IQ of the people who believe such garbage?
Is it truly necessary to be a blithering idiot to be a conservative these days?

What about the cheating he did with his various secretaries and other assorted available females?

61. All very true--what culture created this abhorrent scene?
Abusive culture, racist culture, sexist culture--take Susan Smith. What was it?

Republican culture. Her abuse was at the hands of a domineering man--and she felt she could not get another man unless she didn't have children. They were a sacrifice to her desire to start over--dependent on a new someone--this had nothing to do with feminism for one. Nothing to do with being free, independent, able to do for herself--or she would have done for her boys.

Newt is an irrelevancy--repeat not even often enough to sully the dialogue with his sad little name. An irrelevancy--please refer to him as the former Speaker--or better--disgraced former Speaker. The frequently married serial adulterer trashmouth little former speaker.Who used exempt PAC money for campaigns--how innovative and illegal! You know--the revolution of 1994 is only a year earlier than the 1995 entree of Foley into he House--let's blame Newt for *him*.

Just one of his progeny.

78. Never forgive this EITHER
Newt stepped into the tragic killing of a woman in Chicago whose baby was cut out of her.

The distressed family certainly didn't need Newt's (psychopathic) interference for political gain and actually said so in a news conference.

To use this family's tragedy, just like that of Susan Smith, is adequate demonstration of Newt's TOTAL lack of humanity.

18. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was told about Foley & did what?
Edited on Wed Oct-04-06 08:41 PM by papau
That is the latest factoid that the media is trying to bury by not reporting it.

Even if they left it as "page says he told ... and Clerk - who runs page program - says he told Newt" - and did not say Newt knew - I'd be impressed.

But instead we get quotes from Newt fed to us by the main stream media - as if Newt's hands are clean.

Now who was speaker in 1995 when the Clerk of the house was told by the speaker to warn the kids about Foley? And did DeLay do anything about the problem when he was Speaker - indeed it seems every GOPer in Government new of the problem - and was sworn to never tell a Dem.

The latest 9 pm "breaking" is that on last nights conference call of all the House GOP, a GOPer said Foley showed up drunk at the Page Dorm a few years back - and the Capitol police had to remove him (a fact no doubt erased from the records of the police). And that specific folks were told, and of course those folks first version of their reply is that they were not told. And this is GOPer against GOPer.

Amazing - and our media censor's most of it.

Then today we learn today that a communications researcher has found that Comedy Central presents as much or more real, detailed news as any network.

Now I really have heard everything.

Just for the record, the women with whom Newt was philandering during his first marriage (the wife he divorced while she was in the hospital) recalled that she once performed oral sex on Newt in a parked car while Newt's two young daughters were within sight.

But more to the point, the only two Democratic sex scandals in the past generation have been Bill Clinton (impeached) and Gerry Studds (reprimanded by the House -- the same treatment given to Republican Dan Crane for the same offense).

So in closing, Newt, go fuck yourself.

He was Speaker of the House when Foley was identified as an abuser of teenage boys in 1995 and pages were warned to stay away from him. Nobody on the Republican High Command since 1995 was unaware of Foley and they hide his dirty little secret for political power at the expense of the continued abuse of teenage boys. These people are as bad as the decadent Nazis and their psycopathic SS henchmen.

47. Gingrich on page scandal: Democrats have done far worse
Oct 4, 2006

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Wednesday that Democratic sex scandals have been far worse than the suggestive Internet messages sent to teenage congressional pages by former Rep. Mark Foley from Florida.

Gingrich said Democrats have wanted to punish their offenders less than the GOP.

"What we don't have to do is allow our friends on the left to lecture us on morality," Gingrich said at a party fundraiser in Greenville. "There's a certain stench of hypocrisy."

Foley abruptly resigned Friday after being accused of sending salacious Internet messages to teenage boys who served as pages on Capitol Hill. The FBI and Florida law enforcement officials are investigating.

<snip>

Doug Wavle, a state GOP executive committee member who works at nearby Bob Jones University, said Foley's indiscretions won't affect Christian conservatives like him, who will likely rally around a state constitutional amendment on the ballot banning same sex marriages.

"I'm a fundamental Bible believer. Foley didn't fall in that category," Wavle said. "He practiced his faith in the Roman Catholic Church where alcohol is accepted. He's not part of our crew."

Hawaii Reporter ^
Sen. Daniel Inouye Named in one of “Top Ten” Sex Scandals By Andrew Walden, 10/4/2006 11:18:09 PM Evidence is emerging that Democrat operatives may have held transcripts of resigned Florida Republican Congressman Mark Foley’s salacious instant messaging conversations and emails for months if not years in hopes of using them in an “October surprise” in order to defeat Republicans at the polls. The danger posed to underage Congressional pages is obvious -- but what is only now becoming evident is the danger to sitting Democrat Senators and Congressman as old sex-scandals re-emerge. The media frenzy is having unintended consequences for...

98. Columnists at townhall are doing the same thing--mentioning Clinton, etc.
Democratic rep Gerry Studds (was ever a man more unfortunately or appropriately named?) is getting hauled out of the closet again as well, though that was more than 23 years ago. He and another colleague (Republican) were both censured. The other one was not returned to Congress; Studds was, 2 more times. (This, of course, gives the columnists a chance to slime "liberal Democrat voters" for their lack of morals.) Barney Frank has also come in for some drubbing, though he was cleared of charges regarding the sleazoid who was running a prostitution ring out of his residence. (Frank is STILL a Senator!)

What's different with Foley is the length of time he was engaging in these shenanigans in secret, while supporting a party (and legislation) that shows up his hypocrisy--and the leadership knew it, and kept quiet about it. It's the cover-up and the hypocrisy that makes this different.

Whether Foley will ever try to re-enter politics or not--and whether voters support or punish him--is another issue. The question is, what about Hasttert?

100. Newt also refused to pay child support after he left his first wife
and, as I recall, her church took up collections for the kids. I'm sure there is a record around
somewhere about it......

103. Just no contest between Monica v. Shaundra Levy or Monica v. Page Boys
Seriously, what the hell are they talking about.

The Republican National Committee, or NAMBLA, certainly has a way of minimizing death, sexual exploitation, sexual harassment, and statutory rape. :eyes:

Newt calling Democrats the "worst hypocrites" with sex scandals? After what he was doing on the side while going after Clinton? That's just hilarious!

109. So? Even if they were (they weren't), THIS IS NOW!
THEY justly condemned them THEN, ALONG WITH THE DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP.

The main difference NOW is that the REPUKES are doing everything to JUSTIFY or MAKE EXCUSES for THEIR CRIMES - NOW!

We have no complaints about what they did THEN - we want the REPUKES to apply THEIR SAME STANDARDS TO THEMSLEVES - NOW!

>"What we don't have to do is allow our friends on the left to lecture us on morality," Gingrich said at a party fundraiser in Greenville. "There's a certain stench of hypocrisy."<

Uh, Newt? Considering the fact that you've been embroiled in at least one of those sex scandals yourself, (how'd you meet your current wife, or is she still your current wife?) you're the last person that should be lecturing anyone on morality.

Fondly,
Julie

117. erm, isn't he the one who served his divorce papers as she lay
dying in hospital? he really has no business lecturing anyone abuut 'hypocrisy'. i'm surprised they haven't tossed hastert to the wolves and i think their backpedalling and attempts to blame this on a 'liberal conspiracy' has lost them any chance at any meaningful 'damage control' by now. if they shitcan hastert now it'll appear as too little too late.
