Democrats and a legal watchdog group have asked Attorney General John Ashcroft to investigate allegations that Republicans offered a House member $100,000 in contributions for his son's election campaign if he would vote for a Medicare prescription drug benefit passed by Congress last month.

This story is a scandal bigger than anything Clinton was ever alleged to have done.

It HAS to get media play!

6. Novak may have been the one to scoop this
His Nov 27th column says:

snip>
Smith, self term-limited, is leaving Congress. His lawyer son Brad is one of five Republicans seeking to replace him from a GOP district in Michigan's southern tier. On the House floor, Nick Smith was told business interests would give his son $100,000 in return for his father's vote. When he still declined, fellow Republican House members told him they would make sure Brad Smith never came to Congress. After Nick Smith voted no and the bill passed, Duke Cunningham of California and other Republicans taunted him that his son was dead meat.

8. So What?
Yeah, I'm just being a smartass and it's not directed toward you freelover. The Democratic leadership could ask for a Congressional ethics hearing and blow the lid off the type of graf and corruption going on in DC today. Unfortunately, there must be enough on our own team to prevent us from doing the right thing.

10. Restoring integrity to government ...
This is the most corrupt national government we have had since Teapot Dome. The republicans have made lies, deceit, and graft standard practice.
