Longtime Republican was source of e-mails
The source who in July gave news media Rep. Mark Foley’s (R-Fla.) suspect e-mails to a former House page says the documents came to him from a House GOP aide.

That aide has been a registered Republican since becoming eligible to vote, said the source, who showed The Hill public records supporting his claim.

2. Very interesting! Really shuts down Republican claims that Democrats
did it to demolish Republican elections, considering information on the e-mails was given to newspapers last year, and then again earlier this year, which they did NOT investigate.

Thanks a lot. :hi:

3. It will only partially shut that down.
Repuglicans love denial. They'll still try to blame dems.

4. Notice this passage in the linked article:

Republicans say the timing of the scandal is evidence of a political dirty trick orchestrated by Democrats. They have drawn comparisons to negative reports about President Bush that surfaced before the 2000 and 2004 campaigns.

I can't get over the way they keep insisting that telling the truth about their crimes and nasty behavior amounts to a political dirty trick. I wish someone in the MSM would just point that out.

6. Say it like that. "Telling the truth is a dirty trick?"
Then you say, "Obviously, not all Republicans are as comfortable with lies as the Republican leadership are. Or are you saying only Democrats would prefer the truth to lies?"

12. Only Republicans could be such hypocrites
Ok, let's see if I have this right. The republicans have their panties in a wad because they think the Foley scandal was created by Democrats who are hoping to win elections next month, and a few days ago we saw this...

http://bobgeiger.blogspot.com/2006/09/gop-to-spend-millions-sliming-democrats.html

Bob Geiger is citing an article in The Washington Post, which is titled "In a Pivotal Year, GOP Plans to Get Personal
Millions to Go to Digging Up Dirt on Democrats"

So in reality, the republicans are scolding Democrats for resorting to the kind of dirty tricks the republicans have already said they would use.

They are really a pathetic bunch of moral hypocrites and liars.

7. They don't care about the truth
Edited on Thu Oct-05-06 08:04 AM by Evergreen Emerald
The republicans and their spin machines are still reporting that Foley is a democrat. (Fox, CBS, and AP all listed Foley as a democrat in stories yesterday).
And they will continue to spin--despite the evidence to the contrary--that this mess was caused by the dems. In fact some are calling for an investigation to see if the democrats hid this dirt to bring it out at election time. Those same people have not, of course, called for an investigation into anything Bush and company have done these long torturous years.

8. Foley/Hastert don't exist
If you go to the Republican National Committee website you will find the big story of the week is about what Senator Joe Biden is doing on the Foreign Relations Committee. Using the RNC website search engine to get information on Foley or Hastert yields zero results.

14. "The Hill" Newspaper: Longtime Republican was source of e-mails

By Alexander Bolton

The source who in July gave news media Rep. Mark Foley’s (R-Fla.) suspect e-mails to a former House page says the documents came to him from a House GOP aide.

That aide has been a registered Republican since becoming eligible to vote, said the source, who showed The Hill public records supporting his claim.

The same source, who acted as an intermediary between the aide-turned-whistleblower and several news outlets, says the person who shared the documents is no longer employed in the House.

But the whistleblower was a paid GOP staffer when the documents were first given to the media.

This newspaper covers both sides of the aisle, not just the GOP, as does its "sister" paper, Roll Call.
