Ensign sheds financial help from Foley (Jack Carter opponent)

WASHINGTON -- Sen. John Ensign has joined a list of Republicans shedding campaign contributions they received from former Rep. Mark Foley.

The Nevadan on Tuesday sent $3,000 from his campaign fund to Child Haven in Las Vegas, spokesman Jack Finn said.

Finn said the money represents donations Ensign received during the 1996 and 1998 elections from Foley, a Republican who resigned Friday in a sex scandal. The former Florida congressman was discovered to have written explicit e-mails to former House pages.
