(Los Angeles) Times Publisher Johnson Forced Out
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-100506johnson,0,3972238.story?coll=la-home-headlines

The Tribune Co. forced out Los Angeles Times Publisher Jeffrey M. Johnson this morning, a little more than a month after he defied the media conglomerate's demands for staff cuts that he suggested could damage the newspaper.

Tribune Publishing President Scott C. Smith was huddling with top managers at the newspaper and was expected to announce after the meeting that David Hiller, publisher of the Chicago Tribune, would immediately replace Johnson as chief executive at the 125-year-old newspaper. Hiller would become the 12th publisher of The Times.

1. Goodbye whatever objective news was left at the LATimes.
They have now been completely absorbed by the fascist loving Tribune.

3. AFTER we throw Diebold & all election theft machines into 'Boston Harbor'
and have restored transparent, verifiable elections, the FIRST thing on our agenda should be busting up these war profiteering corporate news monopolies. And I would say, at the point, a total busting up, leaving not a single corporation in the country owning more than ONE news outlet of any kind. Furthermore, we need a Constitutional amendment banning all private money in political campaigns (no more TV ads!), and reclaiming some of our public airwaves for wide open, rip roaring, old fashioned political debate.

These news monopolists are THE biggest killers of democracy and destroyers of our country, outside of Diebold and ES&S. They have got to go! And can you imagine the BOON this will be to our political life, to journalism and news reporting, and to competitiveness and creativity in the "marketplace of ideas"? It will create a cultural and business renaissance all by itself!

5. Dismanteling the media and making money off it
Just like Knight-Ridder, the markets are cashing out of these companies and as a aside they get less critical "unprofitable" news.
