Former Seattle police officer killed in Iraq (in less than a week)
SEATTLE - A former police officer and West Point graduate who was moved by the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, to return to the military has died less than a week after arriving in Iraq, friends said.

Circumstances of the death of Army Special Forces Reserve Maj. Guy R. Barattieri, 36, a native of Cincinnati, have not been disclosed, but friends and relatives confirmed his death to The Seattle Times and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. The Post-Intelligencer cited unconfirmed reports that he was killed by a roadside bomb Wednesday.

The Times reported that he arrived in Iraq on Saturday for a contracting job, details of which were not immediately available.

"He was the best of the best," his stepmother, Barbara Barattieri told The Times by telephone Wednesday from her home in Cincinnati. "We are just having a hard time dealing with this. He was one of these guys this could never happen to."

4. The "Best of the Best" abandoned his Brothers to chase the big bucks...
Cynical, I am. Nevertheless, rest in peace my ex-Brother in Arms. Godspeed to his family.

7. Throw this one on the stock pile.....

Grass Bush

Pile the bodies high in Austerlitz and Waterloo Iraq
Shovel them under and let me work--
I am the grass; bush; I cover all.

And pile them high in Gettyburg Baghdad
And pile them high in Ypres and Vedum Mossoul and Al Fallaujah

Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?

I am the grass bush.
Let me work.

3. too eager to kill maybe...
meanwhile, a criminal organization has seized control of barattieri's country, corrupted its news media beyond salvation, undid centuries of refinement in its legal workings, wrecked its hopes for prosperity, and made it a big fukkin banana republic...

5. if he was a merc it's what he deserved
I honestly feel bad for his family... they don't deserve the loss.

Him on the other hand...
If by "contractor" they mean merc then he shot at people for money.

IF that's the case (I'm guessing it was) the world is a better place without him.

8. Yeah, I'm very suspicious of the word "contractor" in conjunction with
"former military" and "policeman" and "Iraq".
