White House says economy slowed
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - The economy probably slowed considerably in late summer, reflecting a slumping housing market, a White House economic official said Thursday.

Allan Hubbard, director of the National Economic Council, predicted that the pace of growth from July through September could range from 1 percent to low 2 percent.

The Bush administration's fresh observations on the economy come with the election season in high gear. Voters' choices at the polls on Nov. 7 are likely to be shaped in part by how they are faring economically. The administration says that Americans are mostly better off, while rival Democrats disagree.

That was my first thought.

The economy, dear Repedophiles, has STALLED COMPLETELY, and we're coasting down a steep hill toward a cliff.

That says it all. If you're not a wealthy supporter of this administration, you're not really an American, because real Americans are better off. Only those evil Democrats are complaining.

5. It begins?
Sooner or later, we will accurately assess just how deep an economic hole BushCo. has dug for us all.

I wonder ... Is it a grave?

6. Uh, sorry but Big Denny just said....
"We have a great economy. It's because of Republican tax cuts and Republican handling of the economy, of holding the line on spending."

7. What the fuck is going on?
You have this Foley stuff out of control for them...

You have Condi tripping all over her own lies...

You have Hastert refusing to step-down although the Majority Whip wants him to along with about 50% of the rest of the Repukes.

You have Sentaor Warner (R-VA.) saying today that Iraq is a complete mess and troops won't be coming home anytime soon

Now you have the WH actually admitting tha the economy is slowing down?

Do they want to lose? Is their strategy to lose one or both houses and then once the next depression hits in the next year or so blame the Dems?

15. That is one possible scenario
They've got what they want:

  • tax cuts for the rich
  • elimination(?) of the estate tax
  • destruction of the middle class
  • a profitable war
  • a bankrupt congress unable to afford social programs

now they'll leave the Democratic Party to clean up the mess.

22. Exactly...
and when this hand basket we're in get ALMOST to where we're going the Repukes will blame the Dems for screwing everything up, and coddling the terrorists IF we can build an effective exit strategy for Iraq.

8. I pray to God that they keep using that line as well. Is there any better
way to highlight how seriously out of touch they are with reality? I hope this line becomes the standard tag line and gets posted on CNN and the likes along with all of the surprised economists who say the economy is near a recession. Growth of 1-2 percent??

18. I've read at DU that they artificially depress gasoline prices
and they've inflated stock market prices, all in the name of making the economy look good. Yet somehow they can't be bothered to cook their own books to report better numbers for the economy. Can somebody explain how this is all part of Karl Rove's masterplan?

19. what makes you think Karl ever had a plan?
modern day Republicans don't believe in peace, helping the poor, or even in raising the tax dollars needed to finance federal spending.

Republicans never had a plan..to fight terrorism, to balance the budget, or to even cook the books. Besides, why cook something you don't even have?

We need a plan, a New Deal..and Democrats need to produce one, otherwise we're not any different than the neocons now in power!
