6. And Baghdad too .... the U.S. is “losing the Baghdad campaign”

Senators: Iraq situation bleak

Members of the Senate Armed Services Committee offered bleak assessments Thursday of the situation in Iraq and of chances of any near-term withdrawal of U.S. forces.

Sen. John Warner, R-Va., the armed services committee chairman, said Iraq “is imply drifting sideways” because the new government has been unable to exercise the reins of power or find a way to disarm the secular militias that are endangering lives.

Warner flatly declared that the U.S. is “losing the Baghdad campaign” as the number of casualties rises.

“War grinds on and we taking distressing tolls of life and limb every day,” he said.

Warner said something big needs to happen to jump start the government so it regains some hope after last year’s elections. He suggested another vote on a referendum for the Iraqi people about whether and how long they want U.S. troops to remain.

10. Honestly, Saddam was not nearly the killer that anarchy is
This Iraq war is a failure beyond all of our worst nightmares.

I don't think Bushco could have failed any worse if they were trying to fail.

13. Sadly, very true
The world and Iraq are only better off if what replaces it is better than what it was. How many decades will it take to fix Iraq? Keeping in mind tha Saddam would most likely have died of natural causes or whatever in less than 20 years.

Currently, the Iraqis are far worse off with the removal of Saddam. Sectarian violence, political violence, destruction of critical infrastructure, Kurdistan about to declare independence. And the situation is getting worse.

Currently, the world is far worse off with the removal of Saddam. A billion of Muslims now are starting to intensely dislike America and donating money to the cause. Angry Iraqi patriots are striking, with the gleeful help of Al-Qaeda, at the hated foreign occupiers (us!). And the best and brightest and most hate-filled of the insurgents will decide to take their experience to Al-Qaeda full-time. And the situation is getting worse.

By big fear is that the "October Surprise" will be a mushroom cloud over an American city.

14. Since the terrorists like the idiot Republicans...
It is in both of their best interests if something happens before the election. OTOH, this would be a bit too difficult to pull off without some help, and there are still lots of good honest people in intelligence.
