Mexico files fence protest
By Jim Lamb

Mexico has formally protested new U.S. plans to build 700 miles of border fencing to stop illegal immigration, and President-elect Felipe Calderon says it won't really stop those in search of a better life ..

"The diplomatic note explains that the construction of this barrier will hurt the relations between the two countries and that is not the solution to strengthen security on the border," said officals of the State Department ..

Mexico's Foreign Relations Department has said walls or fencing would "increase tension in border communities."

Fox has said the idea of a wall is shameful and he compared it to the Berlin Wall ..

2. Hey, there's a thought for you ...
Maybe it's as much to keep us in, as it is to keep them out. ;)

3. mexico's government is desperate to export more people
they are mexico's most valuable export, they send money home, don't live in mexico so they cannot cause the government any trouble or stage rebellion.

mexico's loss is our gain :-)

and some day those exported people are going to go back to mexico and help rid the country of its corrupt government, military, church, and corporations.

viva la revolution!

8. Enforce the law
Investigate and fine the corporations that hire illegal workers. Do it proactively and across the board instead of busting only one or two for show around election time as has been done for years.

Meanwhile, get rid of CAFTA and NAFTA. These policies only further repress the inordinate number of poor people in Latin America, and allows those governments to avoid correcting the economic disparity that leaves so many fighting a losing battle to support themselves and their families.

These things will never happen because the leaders who signed on to the treaties are in bed with our government and big business, and they all make out quite nicely under the arrangement. But that's what needs to be done.

7. A 700 mile fence for a 2,000 mile border
It is a useless waste of time. Fox should just shut up and let our pathetic excuse for a government do its typical incompetent job.

First the money for the fence can be moved around any old way the decider decides. So maybe a foot or two of the fence will be funded.

Then they are going to privatize the building of the few feet they have money for. So most of the money that does go into it will be given to private contractor at exorbitant fees.

So you will end up with a two foot fence made of chicken wire. That will really help.

9. Since you know damn well they'll hire undocumented workers
to build the fence, it will create jobs for Mexicans which will reduce the numbers of them going further north.

13. I think the fence will be on our side...
and it will be there to help enforce OUR immigration laws. I don't see how Mexico has any say in the matter.

16. Agreed.
Like the fence or no, we've got a right to do it. Don't want the fence? Keep your citizens on your side of the border.

15. Mexico is being hypocritical
Mexico does not tolerate illegal immigration and they have tough restrictions on legal foreign immigrants in their country.

What right does Mexico have telling the United States how to enforce our immigration laws?
