NYT -- Hillary Clinton Hits Road to Support Party
Underscoring her national ambitions and the weakness of her opposition in New York as she runs for a second term, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is mounting a major push for Democratic Congressional candidates across the nation during the final weeks of the fiercely contested midterm elections, her aides said on Friday.

Mrs. Clinton, who has been occasionally criticized by liberal bloggers for not using enough of her bulging campaign coffers to help her party, is shipping $1.5 million to two Democratic Congressional campaign committees based in Washington, as well as to the financially strained New York State Democratic Party, her advisers said.

Mrs. Clinton is giving $1.1 million to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, which comes on top of the $1 million that she gave the committee last month. In addition, the senator is donating $250,000 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and $150,000 to the New York State Democratic Party.

1. Good for Hillary....
she is a great campaigner and is tireless. When she ran for her first term she visited every part of this state both cities and rural areas. It paid off.

4. Agreed
She knows the State like the back of her hand, and has pretty much erased the "carpetbagger" label.

2. I love Hillary.
She's a real trooper, a real Democrat.

But Hillary, please don't run for President in 2008? I don't question your qualities or your qualifications, but let us find somebody that won't be such a target.

5. Let me see, who would not be a target?
She's brilliant, attractive and competent and an unbelievable fundraiser.

Don't look a gifthorse in the mouth. We need to celebrate this fantastic woman that much of the whole world loves. Run, Hillary, Run.

6. Things may change by 2008.
I have a problem with dynasties and anything that could be interpreted as family entitlement, although that is not close to my strongest objection to Hillary.

My main objection is that Hillary cannot win the White House as things stand right now. She'd would activate the precise people who we don't want to activate, the lunatic right, who will stop at nothing to stop her. I would rather not risk that in 2008.

But, I do like Hillary, and other than her incredibly stupid and inane position on Iraq, I would easily support her if she got the nomination. But I do not want her to run, and will do everything I can to discourage it, at least in 2008.

I think she should stay in the Senate for the time being where I think she will have a helluva great future. The White House may lie in her future, but not in 2008.

7. Why do you suppose she doesn't create that affect in the Republican areas
of New York? I think that is a very tired old GOP talking point and the proof just is not there to back it up. She is ahead in New York by a huge margin and a lot of that support comes from the most intense Republican areas. I just don't buy your argument.

9. Well, if the rest of the nation was like New York
you'd have a point. But the rest of the nation is *not* New York.

Running Hillary in a very blue NY (4th most Democratic state) is one thing. Running her in a nationwide election is another thing altogether. Why don't you understand that?

13. I understand that, but I think in the right circumstances, she could win
If Hillary can shore up the same support that her husband got, she could win the presidency. She's not a wimp and her detractors don't/can't paint her as one, which puts her higher in my book than a few of the dem potentials like Kerry (not that he's a wimp, but Rove was successful in making him look like one). Most of the dirt that can be said about her was said a long time ago.

If she runs, she will get the nomination. She will win some big states, because she will get the votes in the big cities. Hillary is very popular among minority voters, and the unions will likely support her.

14. Why? She's just about as conservative as Lieberman.
She'll do great in the red states once they figure out she supports the war, supports the death penalty, is anti-gay marriage, wants to legislate flag-burning, supports NAFTA, is supported by Rupert Murdoch. What's not to like?

8. Likewise -Still, I'd like to see her add a stop in CT
Ned really needs the heavy hitters and every one that doesn't show provides some cover for Joe.

10. AFAIC...
She can't do any worse than others that have gone before her..

She has my support all the way to the White House.

This IS her time to run. I'm just hoping she's willing!

16. I just have a lot confidence in her.
I mean, you just know she's not gonna screw up, and she'd be a responsible leader.
