In defensive move, Reynolds launches ads on scandal

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- With his actions in the Mark Foley page scandal under attack, Rep. Thomas Reynolds launched an ad campaign to defend himself.

"Nobody's angrier and more disappointed that I didn't catch his lies," Reynolds, R-Clarence, says in the television commercial that ran on Buffalo and Rochester stations Saturday. "I trusted that others had investigated. Looking back, more should have been done, and for that, I am sorry."

Reynolds aides said his campaign will spend about $200,000 on the new commercial, which also is being telephoned to residents in his district.

A call to Reynolds spokesman L.D. Platt was not immediately returned Saturday.

In an editorial board meeting Friday with The Buffalo News, Reynolds said he could not remember several details about his involvement in the scandal, including exactly when he learned of Foley's e-mails to teenage Congressional pages or when he told House Speaker Dennis Hastert about them.

Reynolds, the chairman of Republican re-election efforts, also said he couldn't remember when he asked Foley, R-Fla., to run for another term.

4. His Jimmy Sweigert moment
I'm sorry that I didn't get it soon enough.

Oh, brother. He's throwing himself on the mercy of the voters to forgive him. I hope they catapult his ass out of office.

Bottom line - it's all about youngsters and he put the Party before youngsters.

12. Exactly.....
and I hope his opponent strikes & strikes hard, especially considering the fact the he had knowledge of foley's inappropriate contact, and insisted he run again? OMG. That's the most devastating part of all this, is that he asked a known predator to run again to save their majority.

The one silver lining in all this is that he's so preoccupied trying to save his own seat, he probably doesn't have much time to help others save theirs....

13. The ad just played on CNN this minute
He's claiming that he didn't know about the later emails. That's where his opponent needs to focus. If it can be proved that he knew or even if it was likely that he knew, his opponent can drive that stake into the heart of his campaign. I'd like to see Reynolds have a Jackie Gleason "Hamina-Hamina-Hamina" moment, too.

Bottom line...he put the Party before youngsters.

And if his recent press conference is any indication, he hasn't figured that out yet. There's more than one way to prey upon children, Mr. Reynolds.

14. Reynolds covcering for FOX News - again
If anyone here reading this has any access to Rep. Reynolds, please strongly advise him to also mention that FOX News also received the info at the same time as the two Florida papers. Why does FOX hate the truth? Why does Rep. Reynolds cover for them? Here's the link:

23. A man with such a bad memory shouldn't be entrusted to public office
"...Reynolds said he could not remember several details about his involvement in the scandal, including exactly when he learned of Foley's e-mails to teenage Congressional pages or when he told House Speaker Dennis Hastert about them.

Reynolds, the chairman of Republican re-election efforts, also said he couldn't remember when he asked Foley, R-Fla., to run for another term."

Once a person's memory gets this bad, they really shouldn't hold down an important job like Representative. It would be a kindness to vote him out of office.

Now Foley's hiding in rehab and the rest of the GOP is running, again, with their tails in between their legs.
