Orlando coach arrested after sex tapes discovered
Edited on Mon Oct-09-06 12:40 PM by Scurrilous
<snip>

"A high school girls' basketball coach was arrested on child pornography charges after detectives found homemade tapes of him having sex with an eighth-grade student in the 1990s, authorities said.

William ''Buck'' Lanham, 47, who has been coaching at Orlando Christian Prep since 2002, was arrested at the school Thursday and charged with possession of child pornography and possession of marijuana, Orange County sheriff's Sgt. Rich Mankewich said."

<snip>

"A former player, now 23, told detectives in June she began a sexual relationship with Lanham when she was a 14-year-old at St. John Vianney Catholic School in the late 1990s.

The former player said the coach twice videotaped them having sex, Mankewich said. Lanham could not be charged with having sex with a minor because the statute of limitations expired."

3. I don't get it either...either its more prevalent or we're hearing about
it more often. either way, it sickens me to the heart, being a father.

5. A social worker friend of mine...
Who used to be a corrections guard in Eastern PA says that child sexual abuse is surprisingly prevalent.

Furthermore, she says it always has been. We just hear of it more because of the new laws and the fact that with a larger population comes more incidents, statistically.

Answers a lot of questions about adults and their issues, today.

When I was in high school, I knew several boys who openly bragged about regular sexual contact with their sisters. Mind you, this was 40 years ago.

6. the friend of abusers is thoughtless traditionalism and
conservatism.

if there had been no womens movement -- if there had been no whatever kind of rights movement -- these people would do what they do undetected.

think how many must have suffered abuse for centuries that we've never heard about or ever will.

8. well said. but we can do more...
women and children need to have safe places to speak up. foley was outed -- but look at how long it took and how covered-up it was. we're a long way from "ok."

9. not saying we're ''ok''.
i am saying that the fear that social conservatives throw in our faces -- i.e. gay men are more likely to go after teens or what ever -- is exactly the reverse of their arguments.

and they know it -- or at least their leaders do.

we can't -- or haven't been able to make further headway on cases like these because conservatives get in our faces and start screaming their incohenrent bullshit.

11. Is It More Prevelent in Florida Due to Laws There
or is Florida just in the Spotlight due to Foley who represents part of FL? Either way, we should be investigating pedophilia throughout this country more. This shit has got to stop....

A childhood friend of mine was molested by a priest, unbeknownst to be for years, until one day he was driving an Iroc - z. I wondered where he had gotten the money from and another friend had told me it was through a settlement... I later found out what that settlement was for. The kid was a mess, and blew his money on cars... each car was demolished, because he was suicidal for years. He also drank alot, so it was only by luck he didn't kill somebody else while drinking and driving. I remember the kid that was intelligent and articulate. That all changed after he was molested....

I only hope he isn't doing the same to some poor kid out there. I hope and wish he finds peace and gets the proper help he needs.

12. St. Vianney. Oh, boy. That's karma for you.
People I know that went to that particular school chastized me once, saying that they would do anything they had to do to pull their kid out of a public school and put them in a private school. Well, I guess when they said anything, they meant ANYTHING.
