Poll: Majority think Hastert should resign

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A majority of Americans believe the scandal over former Rep. Mark Foley's contacts with teenage congressional pages should cost House Speaker Dennis Hastert his leadership post, according to a CNN poll released Monday.

The poll, conducted Friday through Sunday by Opinion Research Corporation, found that 52 percent of the 1,028 adults interviewed think Hastert should step aside. Only 31 percent said they think he should keep his post, and 17 percent had no opinion

...

In the wake of the scandal, 47 percent of those polled said they considered Republicans in Congress ethical -- down from 58 percent in a CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll conducted in October 2005. Another 44 percent in the new poll said they considered most GOP lawmakers unethical.

Democrats scored higher, with 54 percent of those polled considering them ethical and 34 percent unethical. But those numbers also were down from 2005, when 63 percent of people polled considered Democrats in Congress ethical.

3. I hope he ignores them.
Every day he remains in office is another day he causes problems for the GOP.

5. Let him stay...because it's just another indication that this
Republican Congress does not care about what the American people want...

Let "Fat Bastard Hastert" stay because everytime he opens his mouth they lose points...

7. It's going to be a moot point
Come November anyway. When they lose the house, they'll dump the leadership.
