CNN: Mess hall boss arrested for sickening Iraqi troops
http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/10/09/iraq.main/index.html

Iraqi authorities have arrested the man in charge of the mess hall in Numaniya, where hundreds of Iraqi police fell ill after eating their evening meal on Sunday, breaking their daily Ramadan fast.

Initial lab test results of the food and water suggest it was negligence by the contractor, not an attack, Interior Ministry spokesman Brig. General Abdul Karim Khalaf said.

The contractor was arrested and the cooks are being interrogated, he said.

Despite earlier reports, Khalaf said there were no deaths, and that 450 police were sickened at the mess hall about 75 miles (120 km) south of Baghdad.

Previously, Kut hospital official had said seven police died and 700 were sickened.

3. Unless KB&R has Australian Branch
Edited on Mon Oct-09-06 11:32 PM by RamboLiberal
HUNDREDS of Iraqi policemen fell sick yesterday after breaking their daily Ramadan fast with food provided by an Australian contractor.

The company provides the food and water at the base in Wasit province, Governor Hamad al-Latif said.

He did not identify the Australian firm.

5. You're correct
It was an Australian contractor using Iraqi subcontractors. I can't find the name of the company but I'm sure they probably didn't exercise a hell of a lot of oversight.

4. Interesting, I have other reports
Yesterday, I posted on my site from a report that said 40% of the Iraqi police were affected, and they had to be flown out and driven in ambulances to the hospital.

http://miaculpa.blogspot.com/2006/10/clever-little-bastards.html

today, I updated from a report that said the men were bleeding from the ears and nose:

http://miaculpa.blogspot.com/2006/10/warfarin.html

My guess was that they had been possibly poisoned with rat poison(warfarin) it's a blood thinner.

Do they think the cook 'accidently' used rat poison in the food?? I hate this shit, you never know if you'll get a true story out of that place.

11. Warfarin? Act in that amount of time?
...... really? I could have sworn that it took a fair while to have it's effect - how long did it take for them to get sick?

13. I wonder what on earth caused it.
That is very strange. Quickly into the blood. How about that.

I wonder what it was?

Guess we'll never know.
