Christian evangelist meets with Hastert to persuade him to step down
Associated Press

PLANO, Ill. - House Speaker Dennis Hastert met Tuesday with an Indian Christian evangelist who hoped to persuade the Illinois Republican to step down.

Hastert, who has been under pressure to resign over the congressional page sex scandal, greeted Dr. K. A. Paul at his door near suburban Plano, about 45 miles west of Chicago. After the meeting, Hastert did not comment.

...

Paul said the scandal is distracting the country from other issues.

"We don't want the Foley scandal when we have 100 more important things to do," said Paul, who founded the Global Peace Initiative, which is a nonprofit group that focuses on causes aimed at peace and humanitarian aid.

It will be his back. In November.

5. K.A. Paul......
Read about this guy yesterday. Nice to know Hastert has time to sit and chat with any end of the world nut who shows up at his door.

Preacher says GOP delaying 2nd coming

Voters should oust congressional Republican leaders because U.S. foreign policy is delaying the second coming of Jesus Christ, according to a evangelical preacher trying to influence closely contested political races.

K.A. Paul railed against the war in Iraq on Sunday before a crowd of 1,000 at the New Spirit Revival Center in Cleveland Heights, his first stop on what he hopes is a 30-city campaign.

The Houston-based preacher said he believes that the Bush administration has delayed the second coming because U.S. foreign policy has blocked Christian missionaries from working in Iraq, Iran and Syria.

-snip

Critics accuse the group of sinking cash into refurbishing and operating a Boeing 747 he calls Global Peace One.

"Paul flies around the globe using Jesus to pull in worldwide donations - unfortunately spending more money on jet fuel than orphans," according to a June article in the weekly Houston Press.

The Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability, a peer review group whose focus is to monitor charitable, religious and other nonprofit groups, severed its ties with the Gospel to the Unreached Millions last year when the group failed to provide information about its board of directors and the use of its resources.

17. Wow, isn't he the conundrum?
A conservative for peace because war is hampering his efforts to bring about the end of the world? I'm almost tempted to say he's being insincere one way or the other, maybe a liberal peace activist trying to appeal to conservative religious folk by pretending to be one of them. But I guess his views make sense, in their own context.

Just interesting fellow, I guess. So, when is Hastert stepping down?

18. the con part of conundrum
I think the guy is just a con artist trying to scam as many people as possible with his muddled theology.

I doubt Hastert will step down. The congenital Republicans in his district will elect him no matter what he does because he brings in the pork. He's made himself a millionaire with his sleazy connected land deals. Why stop now? These guys have no sense of shame.

What good is it for R's to keep this in the news?

Do they think cremating Hastert will really be an effective back-fire?

7. This is likely to influence some of the religious right folks,
those who blindly vote for Republicans as a religious duty. To have one of their own leaders advising the Speaker of the House to resign may get through to some of these sheep. I would not expect them to vote for the Democrats but many will stay home on election day, whether Hastert resigns or not.

Hell, Jesus would never have joined the republicon party of corrupt perverted cronies to begin with -- so the question is moot.

Do America a favor, Hasty, you pervert protecting republicon, you: step down now.

23. Hastert meets with critic over scandal
By NATHANIEL HERNANDEZ, Associated Press Writer 1 minute ago

PLANO, Ill. - House Speaker Dennis Hastert met Tuesday with an evangelist who hoped to persuade the Illinois Republican to step down because of the congressional page sex scandal.

Hastert had no comment after the meeting at his home with Christian evangelist K.A. Paul, founder of the Global Peace Initiative.

Paul told The Associated Press he met alone with Hastert for about 30 minutes and prayed with him.

"I am humbled with his humility and simplicity," Paul said of Hastert.

enough for a full scale exorcism of Denny's demons (cool name for a rock group. He must have given Denny the MacDevil version.

33. As a parent and grandparent I think.....
any predator stalking and grooming teens is pretty damn important. Congress not keeping these kids safe is damn important. MANY things are VERY important. It ticks me off when people say this is less important. If it happened to their kid I bet it would be VERY important. Can we walk and chew gum at the same time?

He's secretly hoping that Boy George will finally flip out, Cheney has to resign for health reasons, & presto...he's President!

Of course, this will be a moot point if the Dems take back the House next month.
