Bush summit on school violence opens

By BEN FELLER, AP Education Writer 22 minutes ago

CHEVY CHASE, Md. - More than metal detectors or security cameras, the key to halting school violence is communication, safety specialists said at a White House-led summit Tuesday.

President Bush called experts together after three deadly shootings at schools in Wisconsin, Colorado and Pennsylvania. In panel discussions led by members of Bush's Cabinet, speakers said the best response is basic: get parents, school leaders, students and police to work together.

"Our first line of prevention is really having good intelligence," said Delbert Elliott, director of the Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence in Boulder, Colo. He said schools should encourage kids to speak up when they hear classmates boasting of violent plans.

The speakers hit the same themes — schools get safer when they take bullying seriously, practice their crisis plans, and talk to parents about what's happening with their kids.........

1. "Our first line of prevention is really having good intelligence," This

sounds like it comes out of a Terrorist manual.

6. The fucking idiots!
It starts with common sense:

"CHEVY CHASE, Md. -- More than metal detectors or security cameras, the key to halting school violence is communication, safety specialists said at a White House-led summit Tuesday."

Then they FUBAR it!

It goes from "people talking to people" to infiltrating the enemy.

Same fucking shit that BushCo used to invade Iraq.

10. That's better, but not by much.
Does she want to militarize the schools too? It's not clear.

http://www.albany.edu/scj/jcjpc/vol8is3/killingbeck.html">THE ROLE OF TELEVISION NEWS IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF SCHOOL VIOLENCE AS A "MORAL PANIC"

Just say no to fearful manipulation and instead call for rational laws.

It's fairly simple: friends don't let friends mass murder. It's a public health issue and no need to roll in the tanks.

Why the hell don't Americans know what the neocons are up to by now?

4. bush doesn't give a fuck about school violence
Edited on Tue Oct-10-06 12:43 PM by BOSSHOG
He most likely was advised by the NRA to put on a show conference to let all know how fucking compassionate he is. Hell george, arm all the kids, that would make your contributors happy.

under almost any circumstance of surveillance. But hell, bring on the MATRIX maybe we can prevent some of these things.

11. It's Not School Violence--It's Rampant Untreated Mental Illness
The very foundation of the GOP. Without mental illness, the GOP could not exist in its present form.

And of course, the Walmart-level of availability of guns magnifies the problem. If all the perp had was a knife, he wouldn't get very far.

13. I tend to agree about the contribution of untreated mental illness
Admission of mental illness is still stigmatizing and many people don't know how to go about getting help. But, fixing the prevailing circumstance doesn't yield campaign donations.

No way to cure evil with social programs, so why try?

8. Screw the summit. The WH needs to stop trying to kill the Safe Schools
program. The WH budget has zeroed out the money for safe schools in the last three years but the senate always reinstates funding. This time they've setup a committee. I encourage all DUers to contact DoEd, your Senators and Reps, and tell them that we need MORE, not LESS money for Safe and Drug Free Schools (SDFS).

18. No, the SDFS program works well and supports a lot of good
state programs. Congress had the Rand Corp do an analysis several years ago. The executive summary said that it wasn't perfect but the last thing Congress should do is kill the program.

27. This is rich. The King of Unnecessary Violence is teaching children not to
be violent.

THIS White House who has murdered hundreds of thousands of people for no reason whatsoever...a whim...is holding a summit on violence.

Gee, where do you suppose American kids get these violent aspirations?!?
