Bush's Approval Ratings Slip (WSJ/Harris Poll 34% approval)

Bush's Approval Ratings Slip
THE WALL STREET JOURNAL ONLINE
October 13, 2006

President Bush's job-approval rating fell, with 34% of Americans voting him "excellent" or "good," down from 38% in September, according to a new Harris Interactive poll.

Sixty-four percent of U.S. adults now have a negative view of Mr. Bush's job performance, compared with 61% who ranked him "only fair" or "poor" in a similar poll last month. The drop follows a recent Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll that showed the president's job approval rating fell to 39% from 42% earlier in October.

With less than a month to go before the midterm congressional elections, 47% of registered voters said they would vote for a Democratic candidate, compared with 35% who said they would pick a Republican candidate. When asked about recent Capitol Hill scandals involving charges of corruption and sexual improprieties, 64% said they believed those activities were the just the "tip of the iceberg," compared with 25% who believed they were "isolated incidents."

The Harris telephone poll of 1,001 U.S. adults showed a larger majority believe things in the country "have pretty seriously gotten off on the wrong track," at 62% compared with 59% last month. In terms of the most important issues that the U.S. government should address: 29% said the war was most important, while 15% said the economy, 13% said health care and 12% said immigration.

6. If his polls continue to sink...?
Will some of his supporters throw their vote to him because they think there is no chance for him to win again so they are not gambling?

7. If I were al Qaeda's #2 guy I'd be wetting myself right now.
Every time junior nose-dives in the polls, al Qaeda mysteriously loses another #2. They must offer one hell of a benefits plan, or stock options, or both...

Hell, we could double the White House's civilian casualty assessments in IraqNam simply by counting the numbers of #2 guys they claim to have caught.

25. Al Qaeda Is Really Top-Heavy in Management
They should hire a consultant to streamline some of their management structure, maybe look into outsourcing or automating. They sure do have a lot of number 2 guys.

14. It's hard work taking a 90% approval rating down 60 points in 5 years,
especially when you have a corporate media that goes out of its way to puff him up and avoid the truth of his criminal incompetence.

15. Supporting Hastert Helped Bush and Hastert....NOT......
Edited on Fri Oct-13-06 12:43 AM by LetsThink
.....so I'm happy!

The Evangelicals will find that demoralizing (hopefully) -- Those two congratulating each other and yukking it up but staying silent on how the plight of those young kids. To boot, they both support a weaker constitution.....

As one journalist sagely put it: "Hastert's words about the buck stopping at his door are not worth the air that carried them......" Lot of empty talk and no leadership (once again ! HEY! What a surprise.......)

There's a book coming out about Bush laughing and calling Conservative Christians names in private? Anyone know the title and when it's due out?

19. Yes, but look what they have unleashed on the world
If they're upset or disgusted or hurt, then so be it. So are we!

655,000 dead and 1 million displaced in Iraq because evangelicals turned out for Republicans in droves. I hope they DO go through some serious soul searching, and get back in touch with Jesus. Who would Jesus render? Who would Jesus waterboard? And what part of the Sermon on the Mount don't they understand?

20. I'll bet we're gonna see a boatload of books, confessionals, mea culpas
and the works, in the next few years. Particularly after whenever it is that he's completely gone. All the cowards will come out in the open and talk about how they were had, how they were suppressed, how they were intimidated, how sorry and wrong and awful it was and how they just knew it was bad but they were afraid to say anything but, hey folks, here's how bad it really was - worse than you think.

I'll bet Katie Couric will have one. I'll bet Brokaw will come out with another one. You'll see Isikoff and that weenie Richard Wolfe and Howard Kurtz and Judith Miller and more low-level or below-the-radar figures from inside the bush White House suddenly "coming clean" and purging the sludge from their alleged consciences. I think Colin Powell's book is on the way, isn't it? There'll be a bunch of 'em. Wolf Blitzer maybe. Tim "buy my book" Russert, Paula, Chris Matthews, Tucker Carlson, all of them. They'll be a dime a dozen - all of them whining about how the bush people were such icky, overbearing, censoring, intimidating bullies and how awful it was and how they were all just DYING to tell America the truth but didn't dare.

I'll bet that's what we'll see. There will suddenly be a huge dog-pile of phony-ass "I knew it!" books from people trying to cleanse their consciences of the roles they played in the ruination of America. They'll wash and wash and wash, and will wind up screaming "OUT, DAMNED SPOT!" And it won't ever wash away. But I'll bet that's what will be coming. You'll have a bunch of 'em saying "I tried to stop them but they made me do it anyway!" crap. And that's what it'll be. Sheer crap. There'll be many of them. Some of them being written even now. This "Tempting Faith" book is only the beginning, I suspect. A "chastened" White House insider blowing the whistle. Yeah, sure. But is he really redeemed? I'm not so sure.

23. We had a substantial lead from exit polls in 2004
And that didn't stop the pugs from maintaining their hold on power. I've gotten to the point where I don't trust polls to accurately predict elections in this country. While they do likely reflect the views of the majority of americans, they don't take into consideration the tactics used by pugs to depress the vote and steal elections.

I'll believe it when I see it.

And I'm afraid that we will see enough "miracle comebacks" in the various house and senate races to keep the pugs in power.

27. Who are these 34% ??
I'm sure they think of themselves as "the loyal faithful", but to what or to whom are they faithful?

They see their Nation being looted and degraded, yet they still fall in lockstep with the republican criminals.

This 34% will be the end of the USA. They want a dictatorship.
