Laura Bush lures diverse protesters
War, health care among issues for gathered citizens.

SOUTH BEND -- A group of about 18 protesters waited across the street from Century Center holding signs Thursday to send their political messages to first lady Laura Bush and congressman Chris Chocola.

Around 11 a.m., protesters began to gather just as people attending a fundraiser for Chocola were arriving.

Some of the protesters were members of the Michiana Peace and Justice Coalition, Jobs With Justice, and the Alliance for Retired Americans. Others said they have no affiliation with the groups and showed up to protest on their own.

Denise Mroczek and Ellyn Stecker held anti-war signs and said that aside from her literacy campaigns, the First Lady needs to do more.

"We think it's time she take a role and not be a rubber stamp for her husband," Stecker said.

2. I think Pickles should become a spokesperson for Xanax.
Would give her something to do besides appear with repuke scum her husband's crime syndicate is backing.

9. Ugh. She's disgusting. How can any woman be married
to beelzebush and think he's normal or that she's normal by being married to the Devil's Gun? She must be on meds. How else could she face each day in her skin?

13. We used to wonder about Pat Nixon, too
People called her "Plastic Pat" because of that frozen smile. It turns out she was anesthetizing herself with alcohol during the worst of her husband's troubles -- I genuinely feel for her now. Being a politician's wife is seldom what it's cracked up to be.

As for Laura, we have no way of knowing what goes on behind that mask. The reputation of the BFEE is chilling enough that it makes you wonder if Big Babs had a talk with her about Duty.

I'd join a protest if she came to my town -- but it wouldn't be personal.

Hekate

6. Way to go South Bend!
Pickles was in Granville two weeks ago and we gave her a hearty welcome as well. It was good to be on the street! I will say that the motorcade went by so fast that it was impossible to count the cars in it. The newspaper photographer didn't get a chance to snap the camera, they were going so fast. We were out there for our sake not hers, so other people in our community would have to stop and think for one minute about what is going on here. In my opinion she should be greeted at every stop! Peace, KIm

10. I think she goes on the campaign trail just
to get out of the house and away from him.

Just returned from the supermarket - tabs still headlining their marriage is over due to his binge drinking.

I have a strong hunch the twins are not happy with what Daddy has done - hence they too stay as far AWAY as possible and for as long as possible without jeopardizing their cash flow.
