Majority Leader Boehner says Democrats endangered pages
Associated Press

DES MOINES, Iowa - House Majority Leader John Boehner on Friday accused Democrats of endangering House pages for political gain.

Boehner, speaking at a campaign event for 3rd District Republican candidate Jeff Lamberti, said Democratic operatives have known about inappropriate e-mails sent by former Rep. Mark Foley, a Florida Republican, to young male pages for some time. He said Democrats had been shopping the information around Washington as a political ploy.

"Someone who had this information allowed those 16-year-old pages to be at risk while they were playing their political games," said Boehner, R-Ohio. "I do not believe thus far that Republicans knew about these sexually explicit instant messages."

Boehner, a 16-year veteran of the House, found himself at the center of the page scandal when he claimed to have talked with House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Illinois, about improper contact between Foley and the pages.

Hastert said he doesn't recall the conversation with Boehner.

Those people will say anything! The Repugs knew about Foley since 2001, and he thinks he can blame the Dems? Next thing you know he'll start saying Foley was a Dem! It infuriates me!

6. BWAAAAA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
Try again Boner.

We would not have been listened to even if we would have brought it up.

Everyone realizes this.

The Dems who knew were shopping the story to the media, and the liberal media wouldn't pick it up either without more of a smoking gun than the initial emails.

Republican leadership knew, knew of more complaints than the Dems knew about, and they did nothing.

Well, ok, in fact, one Republican did something...Reynolds apparently blackmailed Foley for $100,000, which Foley gave Reynolds shortly after Reynolds told Foley he knew of the allegations. So, I guess Republicans did something.

This is the best they can come up with? It's pathetic. What is more is that it is unlikely to stick and they only keep the story in the headlines.

12. Oh please. He's been saying this since the story broke.
No one's listening. Foley had been getting his game on for years with the knowledge of key Republicans. And the person who exposed the truth, ABC's Brian Ross, got the email info from a Republican. He then received IMs once the story was posted on the web (his words).

Boehner's finger pointing is pure desperation.

16. Amazing how one again, we're damned if we do, damned if we don't
If we report it (assuming for the sake of argument that we knew about it years ago, which we didn't) then we're playing partisan politics and blowing it way out of proportion. We're deliberately defaming an honored member of Congress for simple political advantage. Oh, and we're also gay-bashing.

If we don't report it (same assumption as above) but let the Republicans deal with it (assuming they knew about it as least a long as the Dems did), then we're shielding a pedafile from justice and oh GOD, THE POOR INNOCENT CHILDREN!!!! Just more proof that the Democrats have no family values!!!

But if the Republicans knew about it, the children are no longer innocent, but actually horny homosexual adults looking to entrap Foley

But if we DIDN'T know about it, then it's our fault for not knowing about it, even though they are not our pages and did not interact with us.

Fascinating.

I'm going to have to get my computer gyroscopically stabilized to fight the spin.

34. Republicans are sick and twisted
It's always who leaked the story rather than the usually hideous actual story...

Gotta go after the papers who leaked the Secret Prisons, the CIA official that leaked the NSA spying.. and now it's the Democrats who leaked the Pages being raped by Republicans... oh wait.. it was a REPUBLICAN who leaked it to the press.

If I had a nickel for every illegal action the Republicans and the Bush Administration had committed since 2001 I'd be rich enough to actually have a say in our country (and that's a LOT of money!).

35. I hope someone else has pointed this out
Child molesting and torture are both extreme abuses of absolute power. The Republicans have absolute power. They are using their power to abuse the powerless. Not many individual Republicans can see the downward progression from holding public office for the greater good to holding public office to debase other humans. Its like someone plotting a complex murder--at each step, there is a chance to say, whoa, what the hell am I doing? But the Republicans are unable to see the progression much less halt it. I'm sure that they are getting their jollies from this, each one on some level, and its their shame they are turned on by sadism.

The Republicans are classically blaming the kids, the Democrats, anybody but themselves for this stalker and he is a stalker- Foley routinely contacted pages and came on to them. He won't stop, why does he have to? He is the only one who can take the blame for this and he won't do it. And he is surrounded by enablers who are helping him assign the blame elsewhere.

38. abusing the powerless is the cornerstone of right wing ideology
In their mind, the poor, the weak, the sick can never be made miserable enough.

The fact of being powerless itself justifies whatever degrading abuse the right wing can heap on them.

There is nothing more despicable to a right winger than someone poor and powerless.

43. I think the Publican leadership blackmailed Foley ...
to run for re-election. It is well known that Foley was intending to retire, and become a lobbyist. This would have been a huge winfall for him. With pretty much everything turning to shit for the administration, every house seat is important, and I don't think they wanted to take any chance.

Since it is also well known that Publicans knew about Foley since 2001, I think they kept this trump card up their sleeve for just such an occasion. The problem is that it back-fired when the press found out. Naturally, whenever you have such a widespread conspiracy that involves Child Predation, it is bound to come to light.

If this is the case, It could put a lot of people in jail.

Cheers
Drifter
