Esch urges national health care benefits

BY ELIZABETH AHLIN

WORLD-HERALD
STAFF WRITER

Democratic congressional candidate Jim Esch criticized the U.S. health care system Saturday and proposed a national benefit package that would give all Americans a base level of health care.

Esch said nearly 190,000 Nebraskans and 47 million people nationally do not have health insurance. He said that was "inhumane."

Esch faces Republican U.S. Rep. Lee Terry in the Nov. 7 election.

A national program could take several forms, Esch said, including providing Medicare for everyone or requiring health insurance companies to provide a certain level of coverage to all citizens.

1. Notice that Terry hasn't been so 'in you face' as he usually is during
an election. And notice the little woman hasn't hit the campaign trail this time talking about their loving, wonderful, giving/sharing Christian marriage? She used to be EVERYWHERE he was.

Certainly toned it down this time, haven't they??????

2. Good for Jim Esch.
Our healthcare system in this country is inhumane; we're a barbaric country because we allow people to die w/o medical care.

3. Single payer please!
Health insurance companies take a huge chunk of our health care bucks. Single payer would eliminate that profit. Any plan that involves more middle-man dollars is silly - look at Medicare plan D.

4. Damn. Why can't I get to vote for this guy?
None of my reps are pushing this.
