Minn. Senate hopefuls clash on Iraq

By FREDERIC J. FROMMER, Associated Press Writer 4 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Candidates in Minnesota's closely watched U.S. Senate race clashed Sunday on issues such as Iraq and tax policy, with the Republican candidate saying he stood by his vote to authorize the war in Iraq.

"You can't really play Tivo and rewind," said Republican congressman Mark Kennedy, asked on NBC's "Meet the Press" whether he would still vote for the war knowing what he knows now. "We acted on the information we knew at the time. I stand by my vote."

His Democratic opponent, Amy Klobuchar, the Hennepin County attorney, said it was time to transition to Iraqi control.

"I believe we need to begin bringing our troops home," she said. "This war has basically devolved into a civil war."

The answer, she added, isn't more troops on the ground but a diplomatic and political solution............

1. Klobuchar leading Kennedy, 55 percent to 34 percent

.....The race was expected to be one of the closest in the country, with both parties hoping to win the open seat following the decision by Democratic Sen. Mark Dayton (news, bio, voting record) not to seek re-election. But a new Star Tribune Minnesota Poll shows Klobuchar leading Kennedy, 55 percent to 34 percent among likely voters, which is nearly the same margin as it was in September.

11. I hope you are right
cuz I'm getting really sick of all those negative republican mailings about Amy Klobochar. To be rid of Mark Kennedy. Next time, Pawlenty and then Coleman. Things are looking up.

2. It didn't look like a clash to me when I watched
It was more like Klobuchar giving smarmy Mark Kennedy an education. After watching the debate, I see why she is ahead by 20 points.

8. Mark Kennedy is vile. I saw his first dirty add against Amy and
wanted to vomit. He is acting as if we the people of Minnesota are ignorant children. He has forgotten that we have always been informed voters who are not swayed by lies. Go Amy.

9. Screetch said he hadn't met anyone in MN that believes the poll
Hey Mark, stop by sometime and I'll tell you that you are going to get your ass handed to you in a sling. It isn't a single digit race like you would like to believe, your cronies have cut and run on you. Everyone knows that you are nothing more than a neocon wannbe and they are tired of the crap that your idols have put us through, Hope you have a backup plan, you are going to need it.

10. Closely watched, not a close race by any stretch
It's something like 56% to 34%. For every three who vote for Kennedy, five vote for Klobuchar (pronounced klo-bo-shar).

MSM probably thinks he's one of THE Kennedys, a nephew of Teddy or something.
