BAGHDAD (AP) — Bombings and shootings across Iraq killed at least 28 people on Tuesday, including four students and a doctor. In Balad, the scene of sectarian fighting that has killed close to 100 people, U.S. troops aided Iraqi security forces struggling to contain the bloodshed.

October was shaping up as one of the country’s deadlier months. According to an Associated Press count, 708 Iraqis have been reported killed in war-related violence this month, or just over 44 a day, compared to a daily average of more than 27 since AP began tracking deaths in April 2005.

U.S. deaths were also running high. Seven American troops died in fighting over the weekend, raising the U.S. toll to 58 killed in the first two weeks of October, a pace that if continued would make the month the worst for coalition forces since January 2005. http://www.canada.com/topics/news/world/story.html?id=f657f9bd-8f00-4ac5-a729-e3c6c31763b9&k=26159

1. Excellent news for bush backers
More dead "ragheads." And as for Americans getting killed, well they'd get killed in car wrecks if they were over here and after all they are volunteers so fuck em. george bush is god.

Number of embedded journalists drops to lowest levels of Iraq war
The Associated Press

Published: October 15, 2006

BAGHDAD, Iraq The number of embedded journalists reporting alongside U.S. troops in Iraq has dropped to its lowest level of the war even as the conflict heats up on the streets of Baghdad and in the U.S. political campaign.

In the past few weeks, the number of journalists reporting assigned to U.S. military units in Iraq has settled to below two dozen. Late last month, it fell to 11, its lowest, and has rebounded only slightly since.

During the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003, more than 600 reporters, TV crews and photographers linked up with U.S. and British units. A year ago, when Iraqis went to the polls to ratify a new constitution, there were 114 embedded journalists. http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2006/10/16/africa/ME_GEN_Iraq_Embedded_Journalists.php

2. How can anyone not look at this carnage and know that this
is war amongst the different sects? How can they deny this is truly a civil war? How can any American look at this and not hang their heads in shame for what has been done by the criminal 'leadership' of our country. I mean ALL OF THEM. That includes those that were 'fooled' by the intelligence.

4. I strongly suspect we are in the DEADLIEST MONTH EVER, in Iraq...
and these two stories combined suggest that the rampant death tolls will be totally hidden from the American people.
