Sex talk dominates N.C. election debate
Edited on Wed Oct-18-06 12:13 AM by deadparrot
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - U.S. Rep. Brad Miller (news, bio, voting record) chuckled through most of the first debate with his Republican challenger, who led a tense and often awkward discussion about sex-related issues Tuesday.

Vernon Robinson, who has run a series of brash advertisements about the two-term Democratic congressman, charged that Miller wants to import homosexuals to the United States and supported scientific studies that would pay teenage girls to watch pornography.

"Those are San Francisco values, not North Carolina values," said Robinson, repeating a common theme of his campaign.

A bemused Miller countered by blasting Robinson for a campaign mailer that implicitly suggested the congressman was gay and criticized Miller for being "childless." Miller's wife had a hysterectomy more than two decades ago.

2. Shit, who DOESN'T support "paying teenage girls to watch pornography"
Edited on Wed Oct-18-06 12:18 AM by Nevernose
Seems like a no-brainer to me. Hey, Skinner -- how about the next DU fundraiser, we take the money and pay teenage girls to view pornography?

Assuming they're adults, count me in. Then again, I frequent the Lounge. :D

I don't know... ha.

but really, the rethugs have had a penchant for talking about bedroom discussions during POLITICAL discussions since as far back as I can remember as a kid.... amazing how much they love to discuss these "dirty" behaviors of Americans not like themselves (or more like themselves than they care to admit)

5. Robinson is Undoubtedly One of the Sleaziest Negative Campaigners....
....taking a page from the Jesse Helms playbook, he bombarded the district with robocalls spewing outright lies. His initial tv ads included pictures of when he was in his twenties, and in uniform with patriotic music playing in the background, always negative and an attack on Miller for things he made up.

Good riddance.

11. America is outsourcing homosexuality now???
So we have to import them from other countries? Are they building better gays in India now, or are the labor costs just cheaper?

I remember when America could take pride in its USA-made gays and lesbians. But they're apparently shoddy and don't hold up as well as the foreign models. And all those costs from union employees for building and maintaining homosexuals add to the cost. It's easier to go to Wal-mart and pick up your gays there, and when they wear out, just discard them and buy replacements.

And the worst part is, the instructions for my Japanese lesbian are written in Kanji, and when I asked for a translation, they laughed in my face.

Maybe she had a cosmetic surgery disaster and she's ashamed to show ugly, disfigured face!

26. "R - Rated Robinson" - AKA "Uncle Creepy"
These are just some of my nick names for the pock marked
Vernon Robinson.

Uncle Creepy - he gives me the creeps - what a dirty old man

Vermin Robinson - he is a rat who crawls around in filth

R-Rated Robinson - because of his lurid obsession with sex

I think Robinson doth protest too much.

What's behind his systemic obsession with homosexuality?

He reminds me of Patrick McHenry. (google search that one).

30. Just another slimey Southern Republican
Gives me the creeps just being around that sort of thing (which unfortunately I was several weeks ago). NC hasn't changed at all since I first went there in the 70's. A sizable number of people still think just like Vernon Robinson.

Edited on Thu Oct-19-06 08:24 AM by FormerDem06
Most people view Robinson's ads as entertainment and nothing more. They are there to laugh at. But in a state wehere you have State House Speaker Jim Black and his slush funds, vote buying, lobby bribe taking and flat out cheating every rule of the State House (He's a DEM!!!!!). Then you have Govenor Mike "Sleazley" Easley who uses state helicoptors to fly to his beach estate, and endorses using the state ferry system to host extravagent parties on the coast at the expense of taxpayers, the Dems make people like Robinson look par for the course.

The Democratic Party in NC needs new leadership BADLY. They don't do enough to help get the Repubs out of our national Representative seats, they only focus on getting rich and winning local and state elections.

Its enough to make me want to quit the state Dem Party and only vote Dem in national elections. Although since I don't vote Repub, and the State restricts ballot access, I don't have many choices locally.

36. Being from Winston-Salem, NC
I am embarrassed that Vernon Robinson wants to continue to "represent us."

He was a disaster when he was on the City Council and he would be even more dangerous and disastorous as a national figure.

He was going to run for 12th district, but realized he couldn't possibly defeat Mel Watt, so he chose the 13th- a district where he doesn't even live to challenge the "evil" Brad Miller.

By all accounts, Brad Miller has done a very good job for the 13th, and is well-liked. Vernon Robinson and his ILK have tried for years to undermine and push their radical agenda to get on the national stage. He prides himself on being "the Black Jesse Helms". If that's not enough reason to vote for Brad Miller, I don't know what is.

I saw C-Span a couple days ago, and the Republican callers sounded the same way. "The Democrats are immoral & corrupt!" they'd screech. "They'll let The Gays take over! They'll raise your taxes!!". When the host brought up the Foley scandal, or the Abramoff convictions, they'd just flail around. They've got nothing now except the hate.
