Apple says some iPods contained a virus
Apple says some iPods contained a virus

SAN JOSE, Calif. - In another example of how mobile gadgets can carry malicious programs, Apple Computer Inc. said a fraction of its iPod players sold in the past month contained a virus that affects Windows systems.

The problem affected less than 1 percent of the video iPods that were available for purchase after Sept. 12, according to a posting on Apple's technical support Web site. The company has received less than 25 reports concerning the problem, Apple said.

The iPods got the virus from a Windows computer at one of its manufacturing plants, Apple said. The virus, RavMonE.exe, is known to spread through external data storage devices when they are connected to computers and affects only machines running the Windows operating system from Apple rival Microsoft Corp. Security experts say the virus opens up further security holes for hackers.

10. Nope...
Most Windows users I know realize that Windows is inferior, but they just feel so comfortable using it and are afraid to try on Mac or Linux that they just soldier on, constantly updating their anti-virus software (hopefully) and trying to remove all that pesky spyware.

I've been Windows free since 2002 or so. :)

5. Sad but true.
Viruses are something you have to get used to when you're on an O/S that has more than a dozen users.

8. Nah, just something you get used to when you're on an O/S with more
security holes than the US-Canadian border.

12. No, viruses are something you have to get used to when
you're dealing with people who don't know where the Start button is.

Seriously. If you're that computer illiterate, take a class, read a book, or something else to learn, but STAY AWAY FROM ANY AND ALL PCS until further notice.

(Of course, if you're on a linux box as a restricted user, there's very little you can do to massively hose the system. I just installed Fedora Core 5 for a friend, and he's ecstatic because his box now "feels like a Mac". Running KDE does that...)

13. Although KDE
has come a long way in the past couple of years, "feels like a Mac" is probably an overstatement, don't you think? Unless he meant in terms of stability? 'Cos Mac OS GUI is a lot slicker than KDE.
