Bush: U.S. will stop N. Korea nuke moves
WASHINGTON - President Bush said Wednesday the United States would stop North Korea from transferring nuclear weapons to Iran or al-Qaida and that the communist regime would then face "a grave consequence."

Bush refused to spell out how the United States would retaliate. "They'd be held to account," the president said in an ABC News interview.

In light of North Korea's Oct. 9 test detonation of a nuclear bomb, Bush warned that any transfer of nuclear material elsewhere in the world by the North would be considered a grave threat to the security of the United States. He previously used "grave threat" in relation to Iraq's Saddam Hussein, whose government was toppled in the U.S.-led war in 2003.

"If we get intelligence that they're about to transfer a nuclear weapon, we would stop the transfer, and we would deal with the ships that were taking the — or the airplane that was dealing with taking the material to somebody," the president said.

4. Question: didn't the Pakastanis ship nuclear material to North Korea?
Why wasn't that considered a "grave threat"?

Between Sec'y Rice's remarks regarding the protection of Japan and now Bush's remarks, it sounds like a ramp up to something ominous.

5. they've been trying desperately to come up with a 'crisis' that will
'justify' war with iran. this could do it and provide a many fun-filled days of breathless media coverage (think: blockade: day four) and a VERY well-timed plan.

9. Bushit tacitly acknowledged that NK is now in the club.
All that bluster about don't cross this line, choose between nukes or your continued existence was a bunch of bullshit. NK will demo a bigger bomb and then all talk of strong sanctions will fade away.

However, the example of North Korea will be used to justify an airwar of criminal brutality against Iran.

10. Nope
The us will launch against north korea if they fire any more ballistic missiles at the us, japan, or s korea. The missile will be assumed nuclear and we will launch tridents in return.

The protocol for this has been around long before bush and will remain after. If nk fucks up their death an a nation is predetermined.

We have many thousands of megatons of nuclear weapons. Plenty to kill everything in n korea twice.

BTW if N korea fucks around with china, china will invade and(or) nuke them quick.

NK will not be allowed to give the bomb to Iran. Bush or no Bush.

12. NO it will not
Because of the overwhelming retaliation that would be dealt. Kim is a shitbag. How crazy he is is to be seen. However kim has shown great judgment by firing missiles over japan and at hawaii during a space shuttle launch.

You have something intelligent to post or just personal attacks...?

13. And what if China launches, when it sees the Tridents
It could quite legitimately assume that the missiles are really aimed at taking out their nuclear deterrent. Russia could assume the U.S. is after their Siberian silos as well.

I don't think the U.S. will launch if N.K. does another test. The chance of it being misinterpreted are far too high.

15. Ol' Kim is in the driver's seat isn't he?
We are powerless to stop him. He launches a "test" we launch back. Goodbye Seoul. Goodbye Tokyo. China won't invade since they're not willing to trade Beijing or Shanghai for Pyongyang. All he really has to do is slip a nuke into the port of Long Beach, and we'd be absolutely crippled. And we'd be unable to prove it was Kim.
