CNN: Baghdad violence forces U.S. to rethink strategy
Baghdad violence forces U.S. to rethink strategy
October 19, 2006

Maj. Gen. William Caldwell said insurgents are trying to influence U.S. elections.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Operation Together Forward, the U.S.-led military operation aimed at cracking down on insurgent attacks in Baghdad, is being re-evaluated after a "disheartening" rise in violence.

"Operation Together Forward has made a difference in the focus areas but has not met our overall expectations of sustaining a reduction in the levels of violence," U.S. military spokesman Maj. Gen. William Caldwell said Thursday.

"We are working very closely with the government of Iraq to determine how best to refocus our efforts."

CNN's Barbara Starr called the announcement of a change in plans a "huge admission."

Caldwell said insurgents are looking to influence midterm elections in the United States....

3. Well hallelujah! They finally admit 'stay the course' isn't working?
What a bunch of numbnuts. Blood continues to spill, and they finally seem to be at least trying to figure out why? And what their role is in this?

4. No, you fucking shill (shilling at the expense of your own men!), the
"uptick" in US deaths are not because the Iraqis want to "influence" the US elections, it is because the Dictator - your master - wants to influence the elections! Goddamn you and your gutless, criminal boss...

5. "The terrorists want the Democrats to win."
Holy living shit. I am so fucking sick of hearing that from the scum that has taken over this once-great county.

The truth is bin Laden wants Bush to be in charge. The CIA has concluded this. It's because Bush is stupid enough to accept bin Laden's invitation to World War 3, and he's also incompetent enough to lose it.

11. Tony Snow gave a snout full this morning at the press briefings
I have avoided him purposely for the last month or so, but this morning was the bending end. Here's a little what the schmuck said: "We cannot leave Iraq until we won the war. Leaving would be giving the Middle East to the terrorist and power to the evil ones."

Two sick powerless assholes

8. TRYING TO INFLUENCE US ELECTIONS!!!????
GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK! How callous and inept are these keystone cops?

What truly happened is: "THE WE"LL STAND DOWN WHEN THEY STAND UP" plan was a miserable failure, doomed from the start, JUST LIKE THIS WHOLE MISSION WAS FROM THE START!

The killings that started this past weekend: the Sunnis and the Shia were going at each other tit-for-tat retaliating( no doubt spurred on by the close election for congress in wisconsin), people were like: where are the US troops? The US was all: that area is under Iraqi control now, stand up/stand down, dont you know....by the time the army got back into the game, 64 people ahd died

12. Did he come up with that all by himself or was he told to work it in?
Gotta love CNN for giving it so much prominence on that page yet when read in context it was like a "oh, and another thing...". Tossed in with the rest of the BS.

Caldwell said violence had risen in the holy month of Ramadan, as it had done in the previous two years, and insurgents also were reacting to the increased number of security patrols and even looking to influence midterm elections in the United States.

Not defending Caldwell, but come on CNN - did that deserve to be the caption for the photo?

13. they ASKED the insurgents, and the insurgents said "we're rooting for bush
and we're just thrilled that with a million Democrats systematically taken off the voting rosters in Ohio Blackwell may have just secured Ohio for the GOP again."
