Michigan
Calls bashing governor infuriate
DeVos camp says it's not involved

Some Michiganders were angry Thursday about recorded phone messages slamming Gov. Jennifer Granholm.

One, which appears to have been mostly received on Wednesday, used slightly vulgar language and triggered dozens of angry follow-up phone calls to the campaign of Granholm's challenger, Dick DeVos, and the Michigan Republican Party. Both said they had nothing to do with it and don't know who did.

The offending recording is of a woman's voice criticizing Granholm for "empty promises" and ends with the woman exclaiming, "Frankly, I'm pissed."

The message closes with: "This message is brought to you by Michigan Working Families."

3. Smear tactics? False fronts? Us? Never...
Saul Anuzis, the head of the Michigan Republican Party, is always talking about Jennifer Granholm's so-called "broken promises," but I'm sure that the similarity of Saul's "broken promises" and the recording's "empty promises" is purely coincidental. And I have no doubts that "Michigan Working Families" is a very well-known and respected Michigan political organization, not some completely contrived front for Saul and Dick's smear tactics. Just google "Michigan Working Families" and look at all of the relavent results that come up. All zero of them. The "pissed" part, by the way, very classy and "family" appropriate.

4. The Engler machine did this in 2004

There was a series of calls pushing the view that John Kerry was the candidate to make gay marriage legal.

Maybe he was but all the calls were concentrated on Kent and Holland counties in formerly conservative West Michigan.

The GOP will loose Kent again this year and get less votes in Holland. People of all voting records hate to have phone recordings call them.
