Feinstein asks Justice to appeal ruling vacating Lay conviction

Sen. Dianne Feinstein is urging the Justice Department to appeal a ruling this week vacating the fraud and conspiracy conviction of Enron founder Kenneth Lay.

Feinstein, D-Calif., sent a letter to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on Friday criticizing the decision to erase the conviction. U.S. District Judge Sim Lake in Houston made the ruling because Lay died before getting to pursue appeals.

"I urge the Justice Department to seek an appeal of Judge Lakes' decision, so that the government can fight to preserve Enron victims' hard-fought right to obtain restitution," Feinstein wrote.

The government wants to recover some $42.5 million in what it says were Lay's ill-gotten gains and the ruling complicates that. Fraud by Enron and other companies drove up energy costs in California by billions during the state's 2000-2001 energy crisis.

1. Vacating his conviction on earth
won't keep him from burning in hell.

(Actually I'm more of an atheist, but couldn't resist this...)

11. Yes, but the government could get back some of those MILLIONS
from the rest of his greedy family. Now all financial lawsuits are eliminated. Let's continue to prosecute him in absentia since the vast majority of Americans do NOT believe that he's dead.

8. Findspine actually commits an act of bravery
Rip off the outer layers of foil and I also don't think this fuck's actually dead.

Remember one of the early scenes in the movie "Charade" (not the remake) where the body is on display and one of his cohorts sticks a pin in him to confirm death? Audrey Hepburn flinched.

I don't believe this death either. It reeks.

9. That was nasty
California did get ripped off by Enron, and California is her state after all.
