Democratic House staffer suspended over Iraq leak
AP - 46 minutes ago

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. - State investigators on Friday searched the campaign office of a Republican congressional candidate whose campaign mailed thousands of intimidating letters to Hispanic immigrant voters. About 10 uniformed California Department of Justice agents arrived with a search warrant and could be seen opening cabinets, scouring desks and packing up a computer inside the storefront campaign office of Tan D. Nguyen, a Vietnamese immigrant trying to unseat a popular Democratic incumbent.

4. They got the headlines wrong.
Edited on Fri Oct-20-06 04:24 PM by igil
A dem staffer was suspended as an investigation over the recent NIE leak continues. Claim is (not my claim) that it's a necessary precondition for the investigation, and the least action possible--apart from not investigating the staffer.

Don't errors attribute to ill-will when simple incompetence is an adequate explanation.

(on edit: added "errors" ... through incompetence, not ill-will :0

7. Duh. Obviously.
Gee, guess one needs to be over-the-top explicit, even when speaking, er, writing tongue-in-cheek.

9. Calif. candidate's office, home raided
By PETER PRENGAMAN, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 46 minutes ago

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. - For two days, a Republican congressional candidate had promised to explain how a threatening letter was sent by his campaign without his knowledge to thousands of Hispanic immigrant voters. As about 200 people gathered Friday in front of his campaign headquarters seeking answers, Tan D. Nguyen was a no-show at his own news conference. Instead, 10 uniformed California Department of Justice police officers arrived with a search warrant and pounded on the glass of Nguyen's storefront headquarters.

Agents spent two hours sifting through cabinets, boxes and computers. They left carrying several boxes and plastic bags of evidence.

Hours later, they searched a home in nearby Anaheim listed as belonging to one of Nguyen's staffers, emerging with a computer hard drive and a small box. Nguyen's neighbors in a gated community in Santa Ana said law enforcement officers also spent several hours searching his home.

Nguyen, a Vietnamese immigrant trying to unseat a popular Democratic incumbent, has acknowledged his campaign sent the letter, which wrongly said immigrants could be jailed if they voted. He blamed an unidentified staffer whom he said he has fired.

10. What a complete and total jerk--not to convict him before trial, but
If I were making a bet on it, I'd bet the guy's dirty fingerprints are all over that loathsome effort.

12. Loved comment of another Vietnamese immigrant on this issue
carried in AP story picked up by excite:

"This letter reminds us of what we were running away from in Vietnam, where people can't vote the way they want," said Xuyen Dong, who heads the Orange County chapter of the Vietnamese Professional Society.

Also taking a particular glee in the fact, demonstrated a lot of late, that rank and file GOP pols think THEY can do what they please, laws and appearances be damned.

Gee, where did they get such a notion? The party is having to slap down their ill behaving young'uns and tell them 'Do as I say, not as I do'. Shows clearly what a BAD MORAL COMPASS the GOP has instilled in their flunkies. And shows their flunkies don't have a friggin clue how they have been sold out along with the rest of us.
