(Hundreds of) Loud, angry voices greet Bush
They came to protest President Bush, Sen. George Allen, the Iraqi war, the National Security Agency surveillance program and most everything else conservative and Republican.
...
Raunchy signs -- many using language not permitted in a daily newspaper -- were as plentiful as the slogans....

Several took a more tactful approach, such as a well-dressed man in a corduroy sport jacket who quietly held a sign describing Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld as a war criminal.

"I'm a swing voter," said the man, Kerry Riley, who lives nearby. "I voted for Ronald Reagan and proud of many Republican people in office, but not the likes of Dick Cheney, President Bush and Donald Rumsfeld and Karl Rove. I think they keep real bad company."

The Virginia Anti-War Network helped organize the protest, which drew 150 to 400 people at various stages, according to organizers and police estimates.

Sorry about the crappy article -It's the only coverage I've seen of this protest.
"Raunchy", untactful, and patriots all:

I know about the stories of granpappy bush doing business with Hitler, which is shameful in itself, but is there any other evidence of friendship? How deep is the family connections supposed to go. A short answer will suffice, and if need be I'll look up further info based upon your answer. Thanks

52. Well I do belive it is all spelled out at the link I posted
From http://www.georgewalkerbush.net/bush-nazilinkconfirmed.htm

"The story of Prescott Bush and Brown Brothers Harriman is an introduction to the real history of our country," says L.A. art publisher and historian Edward Boswell. "It exposes the money-making motives behind our foreign policies, dating back a full century. The ability of Prescott Bush and the Harrimans to bury their checkered pasts also reveals a collusion between Wall Street and the media that exists to this day."

Sheldon Drobny, a Chicago entrepreneur and philanthropist who will soon launch a liberal talk radio network, says the importance of the new documents is that they prove a long pattern of Bush family war profiteering that continues today via George H.W. Bush's intimate relationship with the Saudi royal family and the bin Ladens, conducted via the super-secret Carlyle Group, whose senior advisers include former U.S. Secretary of State James A. Baker III.

In the post-9/11 world, Drobny finds the Bush-Saudi connection deeply troubling. "Trading with the enemy is trading with the enemy," he says. "That's the relevance of the documents and what they show."

Lawrence Lader, an abortion rights activist and the author of more than 40 books, says "the relevance lies with the fact that the sitting President of the United States would lead the nation to war based on lies and against the wishes of the rest of the world." Lader and others draw comparisons between President Bush's invasion of Iraq and Hitler's occupation of Poland in 1939 - the event that sparked World War Two.

However, others see an even larger significance.

"The discovery of the Bush-Nazi documents raises new questions about the role of Prescott Bush and his influential business partners in the secret emigration of Nazi war criminals, which allowed them to escape justice in Germany," says Bob Fertik, co-founder of Democrats.com. "It also raises questions about the importance of Nazi recruits to the CIA in its early years, in what was called Operation Paperclip, and Prescott Bush's role in that dark operation."

Also just this week there was a thread here about the Bush family buying a ranch in Paraguy maybe to escape justice like a lot of Nazis did. http://polizeros.com/2006/10/20/exit-strategy/

55. The Harriman family also took part in the Eugenics movement
that was a precursor to the Nazi treatment of minorities, ill and elderly. Since they were so close there is probably a link there also. That would account for the white supremacy slant that sits so well in *ss's followers.

9. The British press did not take kindly to the Sons of Liberty either!
the British East India Company sent test shiploads of tea to importers in all the large American ports in the fall of 1773, the British government hoping that by that means it might prove possible to collect some revenue from America. Needless to say, this attempt at forcing goods on America came into direct conflict with the boycott on British goods which had been maintained by the Sons of Liberty and their affiliated secret associations and committees. Even in New York, where the boycott was not on British articles, but merely on taxable material, there was serious objection to forcing shiploads of goods in that manner on merchants who had never ordered them. The British authorities assumed a threatening attitude, and one which amounted to a warning that the people of the various ports would be held strictly responsible for any boycott, or for anything that happened to the cargoes. As a rhymester of the time expressed the British point of view in the matter:

"Buy it, my pretty maids, white, black, or brown!
If not, we'll cut your throats and burn your town!"

14. Anti-Bush protesters get vocal at Allen's Richmond fundraiser
President Bush's visit to the Science Museum of Virginia Thursday to raise money for Sen. George Allen's campaign attracted more than 100 protesters--a good-sized crowd considering past turnouts in the area.

snip>
One block down, a half-dozen pro-Bush supporters stood under American flags, raising their own signs.

Catherine Dickson of Powhatan held one that read "World Peace begins with W."

Looking toward the other group, she said, "I think it's a great example of the freedom of this country, despite the fact that what they are doing is encouraging our enemies."

Sheesh.

... these guys moved in shortly after the President arrived and left when he did. They were kind of with the motorcade and kind of not. When Bush came to speak at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk, he did not have this kind of (outwardly visible) paramilitary presence backing him up. Maybe times have changed ...

90. Can't tell from the photo if that's a real M4
or a non-automatic civilian-type carbine with similar stock and sights.

Lots of police and sheriff's departments issue non-automatic AR-15 type rifles and carbines.

Does the state police have a SWAT unit? SWAT are often issued automatic weapons instead of regular civilian guns, and if he's SWAT, that could be a real M4.

Buried as deep as they could:

When the Bush entourage finally arrived about 5 p.m., many in the crowd made obscene gestures and booed, chanting, "Impeach Bush! Impeach Bush! Impeach Bush!"

Impeachment IS our positive agenda.

It is our ONLY moral, patriotic option.

82. Honey, you'll have to thank DUer gdrouse for the photographs
I'm afraid I can't take credit for that, LOL!

Protests in Northern Virginia against Bush wouldn't be out of the norm.

In Richmond, however, that's something one doesn't see every day. ;)

95. Thank YOU ...
... Uncle Joe & hippiechick for your compliments on my images and welcome to DU. I was so impressed by the initial responses on this thread to our action in Richmond that I joined DU and included the thread as a link in our follow-up reporting on the event. Calling us "patriots" ... that was a good feeling. You just don't know.

78. Great to see all those wonder "American" faces protesting Bushco!
:wow: :applause: :applause: I truly love this part of the article, "Raunchy signs -- many using language not permitted in a daily newspaper -- were as plentiful as the slogans"

And there's only one thing I would change about this part, ""I'm a swing voter," said the man, Kerry Riley, who lives nearby. "I voted for Ronald Reagan and proud of many Republican people in office, but not the likes of Dick Cheney, President Bush and Donald Rumsfeld and Karl Rove. I think they keep real bad company.""....and that is Dick Cheney, President Bush and Donald Rumsfeld and Karl Rove are the real bad company. No one should keep company with them at all.:spank: :puke: :puke:

Sadly, it's going to take years, if not decades, to clean up his mess here. And not to mention the damage that has been done to the reputation of America around the world.

Goddess bless him! :applause:

on edit: it's nice to finally see that the MSM isn't only publishing photos of protesters as dread-locked tye dyed, crazed Rasta Hippies. A little reality is a good thing. Not that there's anything wrong with dread-locked tye dyed crazed Rasta Hippies, mind you! :hippie:

86. Great shot! Wish I had taken it ...
I was up the street about a block and a half when this guy jumped the fencing and walked out toward the median of Broad Street (toward the Science Museum where Bush was to help fundraise for Allen). I turned to look when I heard a huge roar from the crowd in that direction. I thought Bush must have arrived. But he was still about a half hour off. The police just took the guy's sign away from him and escorted him back to the other side of the fencing. Later, I saw that he had gotten his sign back. Had he been a young college kid with a sign saying "Bush eats babies", he may not have faired as well.
