Marine Dies in Fighting West of Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- A Marine assigned to Regimental Combat
Team 5 was killed in fighting in Anbar province west
of Baghdad, the military reported Sunday.

The Marine died Saturday from wounds received in combat,
the military said, raising the death toll among U.S.
troops in Iraq this month to 79, surpassing the year's
previous monthly high of 76 in April.

With more than a week left in the month, October is on
course to be the deadliest month for American service
members in two years.

The Marine's name was being withheld pending notification
of his family, the military said.
