Bush to hold 10:30 a.m. news conference on Iraq
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20061025/pl_nm/bush_newsconference_dc

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush will hold a news conference on Wednesday to discuss the situation in Iraq, the White House announced.

Less than two weeks before November 7 U.S. congressional elections, Bush is on the defensive over his Iraq strategy.

The news conference was set for 10:30 a.m. EDT in the White House East Room, said spokeswoman Dana Perino.

She said he will update Americans on the situation in Iraq a day after the U.S. ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, and the military commander in Baghdad said success was still possible, and on a "realistic timetable."

11. So how many questions will he take? Three?
Or will he cover just enough time to distract from any other press availabilities by other folks that there might be today? I've heard a lot of administrative chatter in the last few days about "realistic timetables" (which used to forbidden) and a plan for success (which has been avoided); will we the people who are paying the bills for this finally get an estimate from the Decider of just how much longer and how much more this is all going to cost, in terms not only of the Treasury but our fellow citizens' lives?

Or will no one have the temerity to ask?
