German ship (Israeli clash) = two incidents, one with a surveillance ship...
Fri Oct 27, 10:39 AM ET

BERLIN (AFP) -

"There have been two incidents, one involving a helicopter and another the Alster" a German electronic surveillance and reconnaissance ship.

Raabe said six Israeli F-16 fighter planes had fired shots into the air over the Alster on Tuesday while the ship was in international waters some 50 nautical miles off the Israeli coast.

.................................

The Alster has been deployed in the Mediterranean to back up German vessels patrolling the Lebanese coast in a bid to prevent arms being smuggled to Hezbollah by sea, Raabe said.

Israel was informed of the presence of the ship and should have known that it was unarmed and therefore not a threat, he said.

1. I gather two things from this.
a) Electronic surveillance and reconnaissance ship. What did Israel think it was spying on?

b) Unarmed? And Israel cares why? If it feels it's being disrespected in the 'hood, it's gonna fire, no questions asked. Gotta keep everyone on their toes. Fly a helicopter without permission? Sucks to be you.

9. LOL!
Your screen name adeptly describes my feeling when I read his post considering there is no evidence he knew what he was talking about.

I just had to mention that.

8. What is your source of information?
There's nothing in the story saying where the helicopter was located.

As a matter of fact, the story implies the helicopter was in Lebanese territory assisting in the German operations there.

Due to continuing problems, discussion of Israeli/Palestinian issues is limited to the Israel/Palestine forum, and is governed by a special set of rules which are available in that forum. If a discussion is primarily about US policy in Israeli/Palestinian affairs, it is sometimes allowed in other forums. Discussion of other Middle East issues is also sometimes allowed. If a thread is on a different topic, but later goes off-topic and becomes a discussion of Israeli/Palestinian issues, the moderators may move the thread to the Israel/Palestine forum.
