1. Yeah, Macaca Man's big mistake...
..was pissing off Jim Webb.

I've said all along that Webb shoulda pushed his record...now he's doing it. I only PRAY that it's not too late. This poll gives me some hope.

VA is one of those funny states, that's actually two states. NoVa will go Webb, no question. But there are still a lot of the Old Confederacy in VA, from Richmond on down, that George Felix Allen is talking to in racist code.

Yes, George Felxi Allen is a racist. And believe me, I don't normally call people that; I think that word has been batted around too lightly. But in this case, it applies.

2. That's no *slight* lead.
With the Rasmussen poll today showing nearly identical results, this is not a slight lead.

Rasmussen: Webb 51/Macaca 46
Gallup: Webb 50/Macaca 46

If these are accurate--and since they both indicate the same thing there's no reason to think otherwise--Macaca is in HUGH111 trouble.

Both these show Webb in the majority. That means that any undecideds are only going to add to Webb's majority, no matter how many votes Macaca gains from them.

Majority polling for a candidate is usually an indication that they're going to win.

3. I can't bring myself to say that...but
I can say I have never seen Democrats in Virginia so enthusiatic about a candidate in the 21 years I have lived here...

At first Webb was seen as a man who could give Allen fits and was voted for on that basis...but now there is geniune and deep respect for him...a real developing devotion...

Having someone of his background, with his accomlishments embrace the Democratic Party here has really drawn folks to him...

It is really quite something to see!

4. I was merely stating what conventional wisdom is
When a candidate polls at or above 50% that means that undecideds cannot help his opponent! This is not just my opinion, but a *fact*.

If these two polls--both showing Webb with a majority--are accurate, Macaca is going to lose next week.

5. longship, hope and pray you're right!
We here in Maryland are watching the VA race very closely.

Again, you don't piss off an old soldier like Jim Webb and not expect to pay the price. I hope Macaca Man pays a BIG price!

13. Webb really does come off as Senatorial now doesn't he?
At first he seemed a bit wooden and impersonal but that now looks like steadiness and consistency while Allen is all over the place and is clearly a paper tiger.

It is also clear that everything Allen is trying is blowing up in his face. We'll see how it turns out (lets just say that W's win here by 8% two years ago came from no where ) but I think it is safe to say that in the last three state elections (M.Warner, Kaine, and now Webb) Virginians don't like negative ads. Kaine was going to win anyway but Kilgore's death penalty ad turned a lot of people way off. Allen whining about "that happened __ years ago...not that it really happened mind you" and now trying to paint Webb as a pedophile (heard that on the radio on Friday) or a degenerate just doesn't wash.

I don't want to count any chickens yet though.

I would say that support for Mark Warner was the strongest that *I* have ever seen for a Dem but then Earley wasn't much of a candidate and the Gilmore/ALLEN years were really weighing heavy on people. I know that everyone points to "Macaca" for all of this but I think that Webb was going to get close anyway. People around here are sick of DC and those types.

7. AP: Webb Has Slight Lead In Virginia Senate Race
Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 09:19 AM by Mark E. Smith
RICHMOND, Va. - Democrat Jim Webb is slightly ahead of Republican incumbent
Sen. George Allen with a week to go in a key race that could determine control
of the Senate, according to a poll released Tuesday.

The poll by Opinion Research Corp. is the first to show Webb with an advantage
in the bruising and expensive contest in once reliably Republican Virginia.

Among likely voters, the former Republican was the choice of 50 percent of those
surveyed while 46 percent favored Allen and 4 percent were undecided.

8. .
Rasmussen had Webb leading as well. I hope this trend continues until election day and that the Dems get out the vote there.
I heard that Allen is hammering the gay issue again to mobilize his base :eyes:.
