Abstinence program for (people in their) 20s also
WASHINGTON - States can use their U.S. grants for abstinence education to reach out to people in their 20s rather than just focusing on teenagers, new federal guidance says.

The guidelines for this year's $50 million program, known as Title V, include new wording about the populations that are the focus of the abstinence education. The age range cited is 12 through 29 years old.

Wade Horn, assistant secretary for the Administration for Children and Families, said Congress has stipulated that the money should be targeted to those most likely to bear children out-of-wedlock. He said his agency is not trying to expand who should be the target of abstinence education. It's merely trying to clarify.

"All we did in our announcement was say if you want to target this age group it's permissive. It's not a requirement," Horn said.

1. This is right wing theocratic BS
If I pay my taxes as an adult, I dont want that money used to regulate my adult sex life or lecture me on it.

Falwell, Perkins, Robertson are thrilled. You can no longer be both a bushbot and an American. They are in direct contradiction.

2. Oh, man!
Why wasn't this stuff around when I was in my 20s? Being 34, I feel like I'm missing out! There is nothing I would have enjoyed more than after graduating from high school and then college than finding and attending an abstinence program!!!

8. Just read the full article ... GREAT quote at the end
"If the goal is to reduce unintended pregnancies, there is something called birth control," Wagoner said. "And the government should be promoting it."

BINGO! The government should be TEACHING, not PREACHING!

10. Next thing you know, they'll be pushing it for us forty-something women.
I've never been married. I guess they would prefer that I never have had sex.

They wouldn't want to meet up with me in a dark alley if I had gone this far in life without sex, trust me.

13. You had sex out of marriage?
If you're straight, their proposed punishment is ten years in jail or cleaning the house of Jerry Falwell every day for ten years.

If you're gay, and had sex, and no children were born....well you're still guilty of sin. Twenty years.
Or, the GOP will hire you as page coordinator in D.C.

12. How are they going to deliver this abstinence training?
Will adults be forced to sit through videos before they can purchase condoms or birth control pills? Now that I think about it, the only conceivable way they could do it is via your doctor. And since there is no contraception that is presribed to males at this time, well, you guessed it. :grr:

Ladies, be prepared for it. Of course the training will be directed at us because, after all, "they're the gas and we're the brakes!" :puke:

And frankly, the emphasis on chastity and purity and all that crap is beyond creepy to me. The people who run those things appear to be the worst sort of pervs. Eww.

23. Oh for CHRIST'S SAKE--have they NOTHING better to do?
Is it me?

I don't know ANYONE PERSONALLY right leaning or left leaning who has abstinence or stopping gay marriage at the top of their agenda for the country.

Everyone I know in daily life is just worried about paying their bills, eating, keeping a roof over their head---getting the F out of Iraq before these asses squander more money and more of our troops are killed and on and on and on.

And here we have THIS particular OBSCENE STUPID ASININE BULLSHIT!

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE??????

Friggin congress doesn't even work and when the assholes DO work it would be better that they DIDN'T--WHY ARE WE FORCED AS TAXPAYERS TO SUBSIDIZE THESE HORSE'S FRICKIN ASSES??????

50 million F'ing dollars to teach 20 somethings to not have sex??

WHAT THE F??????

I am sorry for the rant... but I am going to just explode one of these days from reading this absolute LUNACY of what this country has become!

25. This just illustrates...
Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 11:49 AM by AnneD
what I feel is the true angst of the GOP. They are afraid that some where in America, someone is having more fun in bed than they are. Those Godless DEM's are getting some and they aren't. How else can you justify this obsession with Clinton and his member (clenis). Remember when they wanted to pick the clenis from a line up (or at least look at because of some identifying characteristics).

They just have a general sexual immaturity-be it expressed in crude writing (all those porn writings), to grooming (Foley), pedophilia, to self hating gay behaviours.

After a certain age-they have NO say what happens between 2 consenting adults. What next Racial Hygiene Committees?
