"Iraq violence 'linked to US vote' (says Dick Cheney)
US Vice-President Dick Cheney has said that insurgents in Iraq have increased their attacks in order to influence the upcoming US mid-term elections.

He blamed a recent rise in violence on al-Qaeda and others trying to "break the will of the American people".

"They're very sensitive to the fact that we've got an election scheduled," he said, claiming the militants monitor US public opinion via the internet.

In October US forces in Iraq suffered one of their worst monthly death tolls.

The BBC's James Westhead in Washington says the Iraq war is dominating the final week of campaigning in the mid-term elections in which Republicans fear they may lose control of one or both Houses of Congress.

5. Oh really? And what do you think the Iraqi fighters are trying to tell the American voters?
How swell things are since the Americans arrived? How much more stable the Iraqi government is now? How relieved they are that they never did have those nasty WMDs? How much better life is now in Iraq, in spite of sporadic electricity, long lines for gas, 100 people dying a day in Baghdad, worsening violence and bombings, kidnappings, and sectarianism? In fact, life is so peachy that they actually have time to follow US House and Senate elections on the internets!

Or maybe they're trying to say something else. Maybe they're trying to get us to help them. Maybe they're in dire straights and are hoping beyond hope that we won't re-elect Bush. Oh, wait a minute, Bush isn't running for election.

They must be pissed about Mark Foley! See, the terrorists hate Mark Foley and the Democrats side with the terrorists!

I knew Cheney had a good reason for slandering the will of the American people.

6. Pathetic desperation...Calling your opponents terrorists when your opponents
are 65% of your country's electorate is stupid politics.

Hey Dick, two-thirds of the US and the entirety of the rest of the world is against you.

We ain't the terrorists. You and your Bin Laden buddies are.

9. This doesn't make sense on several levels
Cheney's rat level-logic goes "Iraqis (there is little al-Qaida there) are fighting hard to influence U.S. elections. The increased violence is so Americans vote Democratic."

It goes to reason then once Dems are in control of one or both Houses of Congress that much less fighting will occur. Isn't less fighting want Cheney wants?

How could Iraq be any better if Republicans stay in office?

How could it be any worst if Dems did win?

Obviously Cheney's potent logic is from the same guys that glaringly misdirected about Michael J. Fox's illness and John Kerry calling Bush unschooled.

why people are angry and that will play a big part in how they vote.

But you go ahead and spin it anyway you need to....just further exposes how corrupt you are.

You are now calling the American people too stupid to understand that the Bush administration gave them a war of lies. I'm sure that play wells with the Bushbots, but it doesn't play well with the rest of Americans.

We remember the lies came first and that the violence in Iraq is a direct result of those lies. The lies the Bush administration told and continue to tell.

12. Classic conservatism: "it's all about ME".
The sheer narcissism of it all is just disgusting. Never mind the civilian deaths, hardly even mind our own military deaths, it's just obvious that everybody in the rest of the world forms his/her every action based on how it will effect the United States.

(A mild rant there about the mindset; the real issue is that Deadeye Dick is pulling a cheap chickenshit maneuver: a vote for a Democrat is a vote for terrorism.)

As outrageous as this statement seems today, look for the media repeating it until it becomes a "no brainer" to the brain impaired.
But for now, it speaks volumes about their self absorbtion and twisted sense of priorities... Everything is measured in "how it affects MY grip on power" or "inconveniences me". Everything.

14. I demand an apology
How dare he try and connect the violence in Iraq, instigated by his own administration, to the vote in this country. He is clearly implying that Al Qaeda (who were not in Iraq until our ill-considered invasion) wants a certain result -- namely that Republicans lose and Democrats win.

Where is the hue and cry over Cheney's inflammatory remarks? Hell, they don't even have to be taken out of context! And if we go over other recent pronouncements of his, we get corroborating evidence that it is exactly what he means to say. So he is equating 50% of the voters to being terrorist enablers.

Hey Dick, who called off the search for our kidnapped soldier over there? Way to support the troops!
