Now you can sort discussion topics in the DU forums by START TIME or LAST REPLY.
Many of the forums on Democratic Underground move so quickly that it's virtually impossible to figure out which threads are new and which are old threads that were "kicked" by a recent reply. By default, the discussion threads inside a particular forum have always been sorted based on the time of their last reply, and there was no way to sort them based on the time the threads were started.

You now have the ability to sort any discussion thread either by Start time or by Last reply. Look closely at the top of every forum, in the black header row. At the top of the time column, there are now two links, which look like this:

Start time | Last reply

If you click the "Start time" link, then the threads will all be sorted by the time the thread was started. If you click "Last reply" then all the threads will return to their default sort, by time of the last reply.

The sort by Start time feature will be especially useful in forums like our popular Latest Breaking News forum or the new Video Forum so you can easily find the newest threads. Go ahead and give it a try.

If you have any questions, please feel free to post them in this thread.

1. Great! I have another idea
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 03:09 PM by DemReadingDU
Is there a way to sort the replies within a specific thread in date order with the most current reply at the top of the thread?

Example, If I read a topic in the morning having 150 replies, but when I get home from work, the thread has 180 replies, it would be nice to just quickly read those 30 postings (that occurred during the day) in a streamlined date order, instead of the usual conversational threaded view.

edit to add: it would be nice to have both options, and be able to switch between the two.

Thanks!

2. Currently there is no way to do that.
But have you tried using the "Mark" function? It marks all the posts white so you can pick out the new posts in yellow.

3. Yes, but it still takes a bit of time to search for the new posts
You could keep this streamlined sort idea for a future enhancement to this great site!
