Senator (Allen) won't scold backers for tackling heckler

LEESBURG, Virginia (AP) -- Sen. George Allen and Democrat Jim Webb entered the final week of their bitter and sometimes bizarre campaign with Allen refusing to denounce his supporters' manhandling of a liberal blogger and accusing Webb of provoking the incident.

Polls show their race is close and could help determine whether the GOP retains its U.S. Senate majority.

Webb, campaigning in Richmond, said he knew nothing of the incident Tuesday in which men wearing blue Allen lapel stickers put University of Virginia law student W. Michael Stark in a choke hold and slammed him to the floor after an Allen rally at a Charlottesville hotel. "It was typical of the Webb campaign, wanting to provoke an incident," Allen said Wednesday. He did not say why he believes the Webb campaign provoked the stunt.


Obviously, it's either Webb's fault, or Clinton's fault.

16. In her book "Fifth Quarter" George Allen's sister

Jennifer writes about the baseball bat Allen kept in his car. She said he used it to vandalize mailboxes. A high school classmate has a slightly different take. He says the bat was inscribed with the words "N----R Knocker" and that Allen and the group of thugs he hung out with used it for other purposes. I'll bet as he was watching his goons tackle Mike Stark, he was wishing he had the bat handy. Must pain him not to be able to participate.
