I am so glad I moved away from this hypocritical town. I feel for my Dem friends stuck there in this rabid frenzy.
ELKO, Nev. (AP) - Thousands of supporters lined up in a chilly rain at a rural eastern Nevada airport Thursday awaiting President Bush's arrival at a rally aimed at keeping a key congressional seat and the governor's mansion in Republican hands.
Bush's scheduled speech, after a campaign stop in Montana, marks the first visit by a sitting president since 1932 when Herbert Hoover stopped on his way back home to vote in Palo Alto, Calif., - the day before he lost his re-election bid to Franklin D. Roosevelt.
As many as 5,000 free tickets were issued for the "Republican Victory Rally 2006" in the rural ranching and mining town of about 18,000 residents. Founded in the mid-1800s as a railroad town, Elko is about 300 miles east of Reno.
It was the second trip in a month to Nevada for Bush to campaign for Dean Heller, the GOP nominee running against Democrat Jill Derby in the state's 2nd Congressional District.
