Contract would aid GOP now, Gingrich says in visit to Council Bluffs

BY ELIZABETH AHLIN

COUNCIL BLUFFS - Failure to follow up on the Contract With America may cost Republicans their majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Friday.

Gingrich visited Council Bluffs on a campaign tour for U.S. Rep. Jim Nussle, Iowa's Republican gubernatorial candidate.

But he said Republican congressmen have not been able to connect with voters the way they did 12 years ago in the election that gave the GOP control of the House and made Gingrich its leader.

"The big difference between 1994 and today is the Contract With America," Gingrich said. "The American people identified with it and said, 'Boy, I'd like that.'"

10. not to mention that none of these same repubs would be running...
wasn't a pledge for self-imposed term limits included in the 'Contract'? Only way to explain his little outburst/explanation is the one you give... all about the Newtster.

8. Gee remember term limits?
I've got an idea, how about every rethuglican rep who has served past whatever the term limit was just do the right thing and resign?

The day newt et al took over in the house was the day they dropped just about everything in that stupid vile contract except hate them gays and give the super rich lots of tax breaks.
