Denver Judge denies extended voting hours
DENVER - The lawsuit filed against the City and County of Denver Tuesday requesting polling places be kept open until 9 p.m. Tuesday has been denied.

The hearing, which began at 12:45 p.m., was heard by Judge Sheila Rappaport who denied the request just after 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Democrats, witnesses and poll watchers testified that several voters left after they could not vote in a timely fashion due to the technical problems which occurred at various Denver polling places.

4. Check out this quote from the article
"According to the Denver Election Commission, problems arose early Tuesday morning because the Electronic Poll Books were on the same computer server as the city and county of Denver employees. When the employees came into work, it slowed the entire system down, officials said."

THE SAME SYSTEM? :wtf: There are no words.

7. They should do a interloctury appeal
and go straight to CO State Supreme Court

It's still Democratic.

8. What I want to know is who set up this new f-ing system.
Hickenlooper (Denver's mayor) and virtually all of the city govt (and I'd assume county govt) are Democrats. If it was a Democrat who decided Denver should go to 'voter centers' instead of precincts, that was an incredibly dumb thing to do.

The most heavily populated, most Democratic district in the state, and you pull some dumb-ass stunt like this and have no back-up system? It's either incompetence or deliberate voter suppression.

13. Not in the Botanic Gardens vicinity.
Anyway, this is a city/county wide system. Instead of precincts voters were told they could go to any one of 55 'voter centers' to vote. All these centers were connected to one server, which got overloaded when city workers logged on.

The system also totally failed again this afternoon, for 20 minutes.

this is so undemocratic and ignoring the will of the people to keep polls open so they can vote due to major problems.

16. I wonder if they really testified to "several" voters leaving. If so...
that may be why they were denied. The judge may have decided that the harm done by just sticking to the rules was not enough to warrant overriding the rules. Not what I would have done. Seems like if you have problems with the system, go ahead and tack an hour on. The rule should be that the polls are open and functioning to an appropriate level for a certain amount of time---not just from Tam to Tpm.
