Bush wishes Dems congratulations on victory(Invites Pelosi & Leaders Lunch)

President Bush, waking up on Wednesday to a new balance of power in Washington, picked up the phone and called House speaker-in-waiting Nancy Pelosi to invite her to lunch.

“They had a very good conversation. He congratulated her on their wins,” deputy White House press secretary Dana Perino said about Bush’s call to Pelosi the morning after Democrats took control of the House in Tuesday’s election.

Bush invited Pelosi and Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland, the second-ranking Democratic leader in the House, to have lunch on Thursday at the White House. Bush also called a handful of other lawmakers and invited House Minority Leader Harry Reid and Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, the No. 2 Senate Democrat, to the White House on Friday for a meeting over coffee.

“In all of those calls, I would say there was a strong spirit of good will and the president said ‘Congresses change, but issues don’t,”’ Perino said.

Recently, Bush dismissed the possibility that Pelosi could become speaker of the House, saying in an interview “That’s not going to happen.”

3. Why only yesterday Bush was implying that Dems were terrorists!
And now butter wouldn't melt in his mouth.

A food taster is a damn good idea.

Don't eat anything that he doesn't eat first...
...and it might be a good idea to have an Agent Mike observing in the kitchen as the meal is prepared. There's been a lot of bad spinach going around.

out the House. Evict Hastert. Need a forklift truck to move him out. Need to fumigate and sterilize the office.

8. Give him the finger
Those assholes ignored, hid from, held in contempt, and held secret meetings in the middle of the night away from the Democrats. Yes, yes, yes, I know, we need to work both sides of the aisle to get things accomplished, blah blah blah, but I almost think we need a period of equal snubbery to make up for their arrogant, evil behavior.

9. Well, well, well
Little George suddenly finds time on his schedule to lunch with Democrats, does he? Strange that he's barely found time to give them the back of his hand for the last five years. I guess now that Ted Haggard won't be occupying quite so much of his time, George will finally get around to that famous bipartisanship he's always going on about.

If it was me, I'd have a real hard time being gracious. Fortunately for us all, I'm not in Nancy Pelosi's shoes, and I'm sure she will comport herself with class and dignity.

but today I drove to work in perfectly clear sunshine, golden leaves, beautiful autumn I thought was over, no rain.

13. All of a sudden, George discovers that this is a two-party
country. How large of him to invite them to lunch. Too bad he couldn't have done this sooner. I guess we're not appeasers or terrorists or whatever the "smear du jour" has been lately. I've been quite amused this morning, listening to all the repugs that have been ignoring us for six years saying that now it is time for the Dems to reach across the aisle to them. I'd like the repugs to reach across the aisle and kiss my fat Democratic ass for a while.

22. Yeah, what a shock, huh?
I love the way Repukes have suddenly begun embracing the "spirit of bipartisanship" now that they're in the minority. 24 hours ago, those same assholes viewed Democrats as distasteful things to be scraped off the bottoms of their shoes, certainly no one they would ever deign to consult on legislative matters. Oh, but now, all of that's changed! Now we should all work together and lay aside partisan bickering for the greater good! In other words, "Please don't treat us with the same utter contempt and scorn with which we've treated you; rather, do as we say, not as we do!"

15. We'll see just how "bi-partisan" Bush and the Repubs are in the next few months
If they try to bully through all kinds of legislative garbage before the next Congress is sworn in, you'll know whether or not that's true.

In fact, I think Nancy should look into opening a new position - the Office of Food Tasting. She will be attending a lot of banquets.

like barking at Dick Gephardt to put on his suit jacket when he met with him in '01. Little Boy Georgie better realize "play time" is over and his pretend presidency is about to get a nice dose of cold reality.
