Mitchell Still Leads Hayworth

As ballot counting extended into its third day, congressional hopeful Harry Mitchell's lead over Rep. J.D. Hayworth remained virtually unchanged at nearly 6,000 votes.

The Democratic challenger of six-term Republican Hayworth made no claim of victory Thursday, but he appointed a former congressman to help him prepare for setting up offices if he wins.

An updated ballot count at the end of the day put Mitchell ahead of Hayworth by 5,932 votes, or 23 fewer than the day before.

The change came as 5,527 ballots from the 5th Congressional District were counted. The ballots are among about 250,000 that piled up in early voting and are now being processed at the rate of about 25,000 a day.

See? This is why Hayworth is being stupid. Even if that trend continues, Hayworth is NOT going to catch up with gaining 20 votes a day!!

Plus, his crack-pipe dream that early voting favors him is FALSE. I know for a fact that the Democratic party of AZ was STRONGLY encouraging people to vote early. I was called SEVERAL TIMES by the party, asking me to request an early ballot. I declined, because I actually like voting in person on election day. But if my experience is any indication, there are just as many Democrats voting early as Republicans.

The longer this spins out, the more nervous I am that the Republicans are laying groundwork to steal it. By "keeping it in suspense" it builds plausibility that it would swing the other way, which I know it wouldn't do by any HONEST means.

If the unthinkable happens, and Hayworthless comes out on top due to these extra ballots, Mitchell would look pretty stupid if he declared victory early.

Harry's too smart for that. Plus, simply by not prematurely declaring victory, he's showing the district - and the country - a good example of why he's better than Hayworth.

If the shoe was on the other foot, J.D. would have already been measuring the drapes. Harry's not at all like J.D., and this situation is a good example of why.

The returns on election night gave Harry a solid win.

Hayworth refuses to concede.

The AZ SOS & the county recorder (both Republicans) insist that the race is "too close to call" and "way too early to declare victory" and say it will take 10 DAYS to count the ballots!!!

Who is going to monitor the situation for 10 days? Not the public.

Every day since then the local media goes on to say that the gap between Harry & JD is narrowing. (The actual numbers are small, but much is made of the narrowing gap.)

THEY ARE BUILDING PLAUSIBILITY FOR STEALING THE ELECTION!!!!

10 days from now, when it's announced that Hayworth has "come from behind to win!!!!" the public will merely shrug and say "wow! I guess JD was right"

Statistically, Hayworth has to win the uncounted votes by a 2:1 margin. Judging from how election night went THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE!

THE ONLY WAY HE CAN WIN IT IS BY STEALING, AND THEY ARE WORKING ON DOING SO RIGHT NOW!!!!!
