Wounded Bush meets rising China at APEC summit
HANOI (Reuters) - President George W. Bush will seek to revive his wounded presidency by breathing new life into stalled global trade talks and North Korea diplomacy at an Asia-Pacific summit that also marks Vietnam's coming-out party.

Bush's approval ratings have slid to a fresh low following the Democrat Party's victory in last week's congressional elections, raising questions about how much he can do in the remaining two years of his term.
...
The elections came the same week China announced that its foreign exchange reserves -- mostly held in the form of U.S. debt -- had crossed the $1 trillion mark......

"In many respects, the larger story line that's playing out at APEC is China's rise and what institutions in Asia are doing about it," said Kurt Campbell, at Washington's Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), comparing it to the rise of the United States in the early 20th century.

4. I have this image of Boosh with a huge spear coming out of his back
extending his hand to Hu Jintao...

As to who sold us out, was it not President Clinton who worked to grant China MFN status?

5. Dunno, wasn't too involved in politics back then
Country seemed to be running smoothly to me, it's when BushWHACKER took over in 2000 that I started paying attention.

I guess Clinton is to blame somewhat, but couldn't we just go all the way back to Nixon and say its HIS fault for even visiting the country in the first place?? Tricky Dick awoke the sleeping giant.

6. This is going to be so embarrassing
The Chinese are no fools and will take every advantage of weakness.

This could be meltdown time for Bush. I just hope he doesn't throw up on anyone.

7. "China's rise and what institutions in Asia are doing about it" So we are demanding
that other countries beat China down? How would we have responded to that had someone done that to us when we were rising in the early 20th century? Our arrogance is breathtaking.
