Wash. GOP Rep. Reichert re-elected (AP)
Edited on Mon Nov-13-06 10:52 PM by brooklynite
OLYMPIA, Wash. - Republican Rep. Dave Reichert survived a strong challenge from Democratic newcomer Darcy Burner, winning a second term in this historically slow-counting suburban Seattle district.

Reichert, best known as the sheriff who nabbed the Green River Killer, retained his seat after new returns were posted Monday night from King County. His lead stood at 4,727 votes, or 51.1 percent to Burner's 48.9 percent. Overall, 208,225 votes had been counted in the race.

The vast majority of voters cast ballots by mail, and they count as long as they were postmarked by Nov. 7.

...snip...

Burner's campaign refused to concede, saying the Democrat's chances could improve after about 20,000 absentee ballots dropped off at polling sites are counted.

1. I agree that 20,000 more ballots should be counted...
...before a winner is declared.

Perhaps recounted after that.

10. I hope they count the absentee ballots?
the majority of absentees would be Dems in WA?

5. Fuck...
Reichert's a dork.

I like Darcy Burner. She's a sharp woman who needs to stay in the game one way or another.

7. Unfortunate
I was hoping she could close the gap with the absentees, but it looks like that asshat's lead keeps widening, sadly.

I really, really hate that guy.

11. I dropped off our absentee ballots at the polls, so ours are
among those not counted. This really burns me up. It is still much too close for anyone to call.

13. Mine too.
If you go to the King County Election site, you can check if your ballot has been counted yet by looking for your ballot stub number.

The really annoying thing is that I dropped mine off at the polls because I wanted to be sure it got there and was counted.
